My fingers may have gone wild on the number. There are some factors that need to be taken into account. How much steal is need to “raise” level your RV.

As suggested Check with MorRyde/. This is my second Montana with IS and Disc brakes. Would not go any other way.

Thanks, that sounds far more reasonable. I was quoting an earlier post by John who said it added 800lbs.
Glad to hear that it does not. Still it does reduce payload by a significant amount and that needs to be factored in.

The sticker is just that a sticker. Here is the issue. The sticker is based on factory axles and the frame. The IS can handle more than the 6.5k or 7k axles from keystone. So The question becomes how much can the IS handle? Your not putting more weight on the frame so the frame technically won’t exceed its rated capacity. So I very much doubt even if the IS only adds 300 lbs to the weight of a trailer that anything as it relates to truck or trailer payload is gone except as it relates to the sticker.

We're new also. The weight is probably right, but the exact weighing of original vs upgrade would have to be done. Moreryde should be able to give more info. We bought our 2013 used a yr. ago. IS and disc brakes were added by original owner shortly after their purchase for trip to Alaska. There is a world of difference and improvement towing with IS and disc brakes vs springs and drum brakes. Better handling and stopping. I wouldn't want to tow with standard suspension or drum brakes.

I don't ride in the trailer so I have no way of knowing if IS rides better. An overactive steering wheel will toss around any trailer but it may be smoother on bumps compared to a basic suspension. Now the discs are a different story.

Way smoother I think, sinks covers don't jump out so often, less trim falling off.

Mostly a concern for your running gear...tires and axels. However, you are required to follow the GVWR as stated on sticker, unless you have keystone re-certify with updated sticker.

Disk Brake / Lube question

Calm down, I know brakes and grease don’t mix. Had MORRyde install disk brakes after the MOC Rally last fall. I felt an immediate improvement. Took the rig in to have the hubs lubed as part of the annual maintenance last month. They called and said the grease looked brand new and shouldn’t do it. I have about 2000 miles on this lube. Here’s the real question:
1. Does MORRyde lube the hubs while they have it apart?
2. They also said it would cost more than the standard next year because of the extra labor associated with the disk brakes. Is this salesmanship or real? I’ve always had really great service from these guys and never had a reason to doubt them.

The I.S rides better on account each wheel is independent of each other so when you drop off in a hole or hit a high spot on one side of your rv it doesn't react on the other side like it would with a straight axle. When you go up or down on one side the other side stays the same. Mor-Ryde told me the 7,000# suspension with disc would add about 300#'s to my rv and a little more for the 8k on account of the thicker metal. You get the 8k rotors with the 7k or 8k axles. This is the most expensive yet best improvement for any rv.

It takes, maybe, 5 minutes longer per wheel if equipped with Kodiak calipers to pull 2 additional bolts. You need to remove the calipers and wire them away from the rotors to properly lube the inner bearing and another 5 minute to replace and torque those bolts. If yours has the Dexter calipers, it will take a couple minutes more - maybe

Dave W has it right. I would figure an additional 15 to 30 minutes at the outside added to their hourly rate.

The added weight will be very different for each trailer. I have a previous cat scale axle weight ticket of 12600# on the axles (disc brakes already installed) The IS was installed mid June. The disc brakes were transferred to the IS. The camper was similarly loaded and weighed 13750# cat scale weighted on the way to the next stop. I did some adjustments for extra things that were in the camper when the iS was installed.

I figure the install added 1000# or so. I my case a 2x3 tube was welded to the frame with a 2x2 welded to it. 2-2x2 welded between (side to side).

Here what I know: Original suspension with a 3000 Equalizer has 3" of travel, with the 4000 Equalizer, 4" of travel, with the MORryde IS over 5" of travel at each wheel independent as to what any other wheel is doing, with a shock at each wheel.

Don't know what weight the IS added and don't much care. We are under specs the ride is much smoother and I did ride back there. I do not think I would get it if we were weekend campers but we have always done a lot of road miles and IMO the OEM suspension is the weakest link.

Agree with Richard on this. As expensive as it is i would do it again. When i travel i travel no less than 600 miles from home and usually much more. If i were a week-end warrior traveling no more than 200 miles then i probably wouldn't spend the money but the I.S. is something i don't have to worry about stranding me on the side of the road like the old suspension. As for as weight i don't worry about how much it weighs on account i can't do anything about it anyhow. If you want a beefier suspension then the weight goes with it.
