Tire/axle question

Ok troops, we are in Texas and around San Antonio and we noticed we have some wear on the insides only of both tires on the second axle. Tire pressure is fine in both tires so what have I got for a problem? Is the axle messed up or what? Any help would be appreciated.
If you know of an axle place in San Antonio please make a reference to it also.

Check to make sure the U bolts are tight. The axles have a pin the goes into a hole on the spring. If the U bolts got loose, the axle can move, some folks have had the pin get sheared.

At any rate, it the axle moved, you could be out of aliment.

If Ozz's link was about the wear pattern for G614s I thought the wear occurred on inside and outside and on both axles.

If you don't have G614s this could be a wear pattern that the same axle has "flattened out" and probably needs to be checked. Unfortunately, I don't know any place in San Antonio for reference.

Ron, My guess is you lost the camber on that axle. A couple of shops said they could put the bend back in the defective axle but none would guarentee it would hold. When it happened to me I just had a new, thicker wall axle installed. Couple of years ago and it ran me about $300 out the door. Jim

Ron, the pix shows our tire while in Billings MT this summer. Axles were bent. Fortunate to have repairs done there for $125 per axle with no problems since. Not sure if it's your issue

I had the problem with mine, axles went flat. Did not want to straighten, as once bent they will rebend easier the second time. Also, my axles were if not under rated they were almost. I went from 5200lbs to 7000lbs axles.
spentless than $250.00 for axles and was able to do work myself.

I'll just ring in on my experience with loss of camber (flat axle). I had the camber and toe adjusted on both axles on my then new 3150RL as the tires were wearing on the inside only. The tech at Atlas Spring and Axle here in Wichita said my axles seemed stouter than most and they should hold the alignment ... two years later he was right ... no tread wear. $128.00 to align both axles.

Ron,
I replaced the 5200# axles with 6000#, heavier springs with more leaves, MorRyde Z bracket, wet-bolt kit for about $1200.

My 2980RL had no room for extra weight with the 5200's.....I wonder why they built it that way in the first place...guess Keystone decided for us that we would only use it on the weekends.

Rondo

What did you decide to do on your tire problem? I have Goodyear tire coupons, for some GOODYEAR TIRES.

When we get down to your area Larry I've got to find an Axle and Spring company in the area. Know of any down there? I'm hoping the tires will last until we get down there and have the axles checked for out of camber and allignment I'll need new tires none the less so I'll be talking to you when we get down there. I'll need two for the rear axle for sure. I've got LT235R16s on the unit now since I had them put on last year on the way to Florida when I had the blowout. Front axle is fine so far,I think, but I'll have it checked also.
