Tires

I am in the process of replacing the LT235/85R16 tires on my 2003 Montana 3255RL. The 4 tires are Load Range E that have a load rating of 12,168 lb. total. My trailer weighs 12,680. Do I need to get to Load Range G in order to safely accomodate the weight of the trailer? The published weight of a fully loaded trailer is 12,260 lb. Load Range G tires are $1200.00 for 4.

Davideboe, Welcome to the Forum!

You are looking at total weight, and not the axle weight. Subract what is on the pin box, and your axles are probably only supporting around 10,600 lbs. Your load range E are fine. You could even go to S rated tires. Load range G would be overkill, and would cost you some new wheels as well to handle the 110psi rating to be completely safe. If you have 6-lug wheels, you will never find wheels rated beyond 80 psi.

I would recommend sticking with what you have. Hopefully LonnieB or Glenn will step in and give you some expert advise!

Even though this forum is indpendent of Keystone sometimes they read this forum but they do not participate and will not reply. Bsmeaton's reply is accurate. The tires ratings are higher than the weight on the axles. If you want to talk to Keystone about it call (574)535-2100 or (866)425-4369. The last one is toll free.

Your question is a good one. Thank you.
