Ozz...your speeds are roughly what you signed up for with your Internet Service Provider (ISP). They are also subject to geography, such as number of hops between you and them, and amount of current traffic. My speeds vary quite a bit depending on those conditions.

Another place I like to test speeds at:

http://www.dslreports.com/stest

They have few different ones on the same page.

Fun test Glenn...hope I don't flunk...

Mine had a tortise instead of numbers...... Does that give you a clue as to my dialup speed LOL?

Living in the country has its good points and then its bad points. I just love it when Verizon sends me a flyer in my bill asking me to subscribe to DSL..... they don't have it in our area.

On 5rvers it showed Download 2753 kbps / Upload 296 kbps / 344.1 KB/sec

Don't feel to bad about not understanding these tests. I've done these tests for years and evrytime I get a different speed. It's just like Ozzie said "They are also subject to geography, such as number of hops between you and them, and amount of current traffic. My speeds vary quite a bit depending on those conditions." I only posted it so you can get a rough idea of your speed. Do it again this evening and than again about 3AM and there should be a change as there is a lot less traffic on the WWW at 3AM than at 8PM.

2097.2 kbps on our rv park's wifi system. And it seems a bit slower right now than it normally is.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

I'm pretty sure my results are very good, since I'm on cable internet.
On Glenn's ACS I got 87.15 Mbps initial, download @ 10.89 Mbps, and final was 89,240.5 kbps.
On Speakeasy I got download @ 4,673 kbps and upload @ 473 kbps.
All I know is I don't wait very long, usually.
I'll have a big adjustment when we hit the road, I'm sure.

I just signed up for a faster service with my ISP and they sent me to Speakeasy for testing, saying it was the better choice.

Ok, tell me what I did wrong. On Glenn's test mine read 41527.8 kbps and the red line went all the way across the page.

On Speakeasy it said 491 kbps download and 59 upload

The ISP tech was just out to our house...and he recommended PCPitstop over Speakeasy. I guess different strokes for different folks, but this guy was a definite geek (that's a good term in puter language).

http://pcpitstop.com/internet/BandwidthResults.asp

Those tests are very subjective adelmoll, I wouldn't take any single site too seriously. But if you see a trend across different sites I would tend to believe them.

I just signed up for a higher speed promo and my own testing indicated something was wrong. I had the ISP send someone out and he corrected some wiring along with a new cable modem.
My speeds are now in spec and everyone is happy.

This is what I got from Glens site. Looks pretty impressive. Not sure it is acurate though.

Your current bandwidth reading is:

387.10 Mbps

which means you can download at 48.39 MB/sec. from our servers.

Adelmoll, if you look closely, most likely one of those is kBps and the other kbps. Note the B vs the b. b is bits and B is bytes. A B (byte) is roughly 8 b's (bits). So you would expect kbps to be roughly 8 times the kBps reading.

It would be similar to saying you type 80 words per minute. In typing, a word is 5 characters. Another site might say your typing rate is 400, meaning 400 characters per second.
