Garin1,
I think if you search through some of the past topics you will find a great deal of information and opinions that will apply to the topic of which oil. I just had this talk with my mechanic at the dealership today and I am choosing to stick with the standard oil vs. the synthetic. If you also do a search on mileage intervals between oil changes I think you will get a great deal of information to go along with it. I change my oil every 3,000 miles and my mechanic today tried talking me into every 5,000 miles as the oils that are on the market today are much better than the past. I feel more comfortable with the 3k changes, I figure what I spend ($50) on an oil change is more than paid itself back in the additional fuel mileage (mpg) the diesel provides me vs. a gas motor. As far as filters go, I use the factory filters GM provides for the Duramax. This is what works for me. I know you are going to get other opinions, just go with what feels best for you and your new truck.
