Solar

Just a quick question about Harbor Freight solar panels. I was thinking about buying a 45 watt panel kit just to help so I don't have to run the generator so often. $139.99 on sale. I do have the so called solar prep from Keystone AKA just a plug in that hooks directly to the battery or batteries. This would just be a temporary bandaid. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I wish I could tell you that 45 watts would help you out. I think you would be better off saving for a better system even if it takes you a few years to save for a better one.. I think you would like to have something that does what you are hoping to achieve. Someone will come by that has this panel and can give a little better idea what to expect from this system..

We boondock a lot. We have a good quality 90 watt portable solar panel. Works well for us. Keep both batteries charged. We also have a Yamaha 2000 generator. With the 2 we can do just about anything.
Don't scrimp on a solar panel.

Don't have solar, so I am not up on where the market is these days. Most good panels are mono crystal and put out around 16vdc in full sun. Don't remember the hf panel real well, but at the time I felt it was more of a "battery maintainer" than something that is going to ease load...even as a bandaid. But the people you need to hear from are those that have the installs done and working. John

I looked at those before going 400w and four T105s. The cost for HF and installing it wasn't worth it compared to what I've got now.
