Hello!
I've been hearing about this site for a while,and thought I should stop in now that we actually own a Montana.
So, a funny thing happened at the RV dealership. I fully intended to buy the Keystone Cougar 5th wheel that was perfectly sized for my existing truck -- a 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 with very low miles on the Cummins diesel engine and a really nice used Pull-Rite Super Glide in the back. Then, I saw the trailer sitting next to it. The next thing I know, I'm buying a Montana High Country 340BH. Cha-ching!...
OK, the trailer is nice, and I was able to safely make it home dry. However, it quickly became apparent that I needed a little more truck. A couple weeks later, I dropped into a truck dealership to browse the one tons. I fully intended to buy a new SRW F350. However, somehow I ended up with a slightly used DRW 2014 Ram 3500 -- well optioned for about the same money. Of course, I also stopped by the trailer shop to pick up a new B&W Companion for the new truck, as my Super Glide wasn't going to do the trick anymore. Cha-ching, Cha-ching!...
Now, you'd think I'd be done spending money, right?... Noooo! That's where Amazon comes into the picture. Everywhere I look there are cool little camping items to buy. Why, just the other day the UPS guy delivered two more boxes of stuff. God, help me!!!
But seriously, I'm resisting the temptation to buy anything but the necessities for the trailer and truck right now -- at least until we use it a few times to figure out what we actually need. We really are enjoying the new trailer, even though we've only tested it out in the yard a few times and taken it on one shake-down 300 mile round-trip over the last Memorial Day weekend (in which the trailer and TV worked flawlessly).
In just a couple of weeks we'll be heading out on a military PCS move from Washington to Kentucky -- a little 2400 mile journey. There will be several interesting stops along the way, along with a little stay in Iowa to visit relatives. Once we arrive in Kentucky, we'll be using the Montana as our temporary housing until we find a place there.

Welcome to the forum and may your new rig bring you many years of wonderful memories. You'll find this forum is populated by a wonderful group of knowledgeable folks ready and willing to help. And yes, like us and many others, you're learning that you can buy a really great rig with lots of extras and still find ways to spend even more. For us that's half the fun. We had ours in for repairs recently and the shop foreman asked if the modifications out numbered the original equipment

If a surge suppression system was not in the Amazon box, I would strongly suggest that your spending is not yet over. Our preference is the Progressive Industries EMS system. To us this addition is not an option, but a necessity! Oh, and welcome to the forum!!

I second Bingo's suggestion regarding the Progressive EMS. You have way too much money invested in your rig to not install this important mst have item.

Yep, the surge suppressor was #1 on the list when I picked it up at the dealership. Great suggestion! You can never be too careful.

Good call on the surge protector. After reading stuff on this site I have been spending money. Progressive EMS from Amazon should arrive Saturday. Haven't even been out in my HC yet. Some off the stuff with tires and this and that makes my heart skip a beat. Lol

While you're on your way to Kentucky and if you're coming through Nebraska around June 17-23rd, stop in at Pine Grove RV Park and Campground just off I-80 between Omaha and Lincoln. Welcome to this awesome forum! I don't believe anyone mentioned tires, so I will. First off, I don't know the weights you're dealing with, with your Montana. I will say if you have E rated ST tires, you may want to do some research on this forum about tires. Many of us have stories to tell about our experience with E rated ST tires, particularly the Goodyear Marathon. It seems Keystone has determined that these tires are up to the task of handling the weight of our rigs and have spec'd them for use on the Montana line. Most of us have found that is not the case and have moved up to either a more stout E rated L/T tire or tires with a G rating. This is something you may want to pay attention to as there is much documentation of failures. Some of these have resulted in expensive damage to the body of the 5er. I know the thought of spending some more of your money on tires when the ones you have are new, not to mention all the other expenses involved in a purchase such as this, isn't all that appealing, but this is an issue that is front and center with a lot of us, for good reason. At the very least, invest in a TPMS so at the minimum you know when the fur is about to fly. When I joined this forum 2 years ago, this advice was the first given to me. Now, I'm passing it on. Do with it what you will.
