Moth Ball Smell?

How does one get rid of the moth ball smell? My hubby insisted that we lace the monty with moth balls while in storage. And I am afraid that the smell will be around for a long time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I may just pitch a tent and let him live in it for a while

We live in our Monty 24/7/365 and never have it stored BUT when we owned the motel and fishing camp in northern NY we would shut down for the winter. Into each room we would place paper soup bowls filled with moth balls to keep out rodents, etc. Each spring we would collect the moth balls and let the rooms air out and after four to five days the oder was gone.
If you placed the moth balls directly on the carpet or furniture you may have a problem getting the oder out of the fabric. At that point I would try Fabreze.

Good advice from Glenn. Watch out for moth balls on fabric, furniture and plastics. They do really funky stuff unless you actually contain them (like w/ the soup bowls) and keep them from contact with interior surfaces. It's the smell we want, not the chemical interactions. Hopefully heavy duty airing will do the trick.

Thank you for your response. I guess 4 or 5 days in a tent won't kill me! Yep they were placed in soup cups.
