Fresh water tank, cleaning

Our fresh water from the fresh water tank tastes horrible. The manual says to use bleach, but was wondering if I could use vinegar? Has anybody done it?

We have used baking soda to freshen up our thank. It worked well. I just disolved a box of it in a bucket of water, poured it into the fresh tank and drove home from our last RV site, then flushed out the tank a couple of times.

I believe that you can use vinegar to help clean the tank. I think if you use vinegar you use a ratio of about 50 / 50. Of course be sure and do like Doug and Sharon.... slosh it around real good and then dump it all out of the tank and lines 2 or 3 times. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing and how it works. Thanks.

I've done the bleach thing twice a year on our Montana. I usually put in half a cup of bleach and fill the tank. Let sit about 4 hours and drain. I then fill and drain twice more with straight water. This has worked for us. All of our RV buddies use bleach as well.

In my Montana manual it sez:

mix 1/4 cup bleach to 1 gallon water fro every 15 gallons of tank capacity.

Add solution to tank & fill with water. Open each faucet until chlorine odor. Close all faucets, let stand 4 hrs.

Drain and flush with fresh water until no chlorine smell.
