Grand Canyon
We are planning a trip to Arizona and Colorado for early summer, 2013. We want to spend several days enjoying the Grand Canyon. Can anyone recommend a good campground within about 20 - 30 miles of the canyon, preferrably the south rim? We are just beginning our plans and so far have not been impressed with what we see online. Surely there are more campgrounds than what I can find on the net. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin

We stayed here, not saying it is the bestest campground around, but the location is EVERYTHING, and the location was great as far as we were concerned. The dump is one of the worst we have ever had the displeasure of using. Nasty. But, the location was great! We stopped during THE Trip, and most of THE Trip was written in dust, we just rolled around in it, no reservations until the last moment. That presents issues, but, we always shoe horned Tana in and we were for the most part ok with how stuff worked out. A bit of living on the edge, but, liberating in some strange way.
Lots of people stay down in Williams, but that was just too far away from the park for us. You know, each to his own comfort zone. And, hey this was marginally better than a Walleyworld. LOL

There is a FHU CG located right across the street from the GC. It is a big dirt field with water, electric and sewer connections. It does have a few trees and bushes in it but it is nothing to rave about. We would stay there again because it is just so convenient to everything in the Park. You do need to make reservations. It was not crowded at all when we were there but that was in April. A storm came through and it was cold. Water hose was frozen until about 10am. Other than that all was fine.
A lot of people stay in Williams and then take the train up to the Canyon. If that works for you it can be a lot of fun. Good luck. Dennis

When we went to the Grand Canyon we stayed at Trailer Village which is in the Grand Canyon Village. You can make reservations and it has full hook-ups. The shuttle bus stops at the campground all day long. You can also walk to the rim from your campsite, it's very close.
Enjoy your trip..

We second Trailer Village - spent a lot of time there a few years ago. If you're interested in a lot of Grand Canyon info - go to our blog ( www.RVingandtravels.com) and look at the Index (on right) - click on Grand Canyon and there's a plethora of information.
Have a great trip - we've enjoyed our many visits!

We loved Trailer Village, never had to drive anywhere the shuttle was so convenient. You may need reservations though

Ya know, this IS the place to go for good info! Thanks to all for your help. We're seriously looking at a trip to AZ and CO in the spring. We love old steam trains so we'll be doing the D&SNG RR and T&C RR, along with others. But the Grand Canyon is a priority. Looks like Trailer Village might be just what we're looking for. As our plans come together and the dates settle in we'll contact TV for reservations.
Thanks again for all the info.
Happy winter folks !

Trailer Village inside the park is your best location. It is full hook-up and has shuttle service to the various south rim sites. We stayed there last year and would stay there again if we ever return.
