My first China Bomb Blowout

Only 2,100 miles on the Monty and the Right Rear Trailer King came apart 45 miles from home. A lot has been written about these incidents and I never believed it would happen 8 months into ownership. My TPMS showed the RR tire increasing in pressure and temperature more that the others and I had just made a plan to pull over 5 miles ahead to check the tire when it blew and of course took out the sheet metal and plastic fender. Questions:
1. I am looking to replace all with Sailuns as I have read positive reviews here, comments?
2. Need to replace the sheet metal and plastic fender. Does anyone have advice or experience with Keystone providing the parts?
3. I have 8 bolt rims, will these support the G rated tires?

Not sure about the sheet metal, I just bent mine back, but the fender I got from Trekwood.com. If your rig is newer than 2010 you have 110# rims. If not you need to crawl under and see what's stamped on them.

They should have the parts. My dealer was able get them when ours blew. Fortunately, my insurance covered it.

Look at the backside of the rims and they are marked for max pressure. Your rig is a 2016, so they should be 110 unless the dealer switched rims when it came in for some reason. You will need metal valve stems in the wheels also.

Sorry it happened, but I think a lot of folks know about the issue and assume it won't happen to them until it does.

In the bigger picture, whether you spend more for the G614's, or a little less for the Sailun's, the cost in the end will be much less than the cost of repairing the rig and the associated cost of the down time. It says a lot that the Montana line is finally coming with 14 ply tires from the factory, something that should have happened a long time ago, although the G614's had been an option for a number of years. Running these heavy rigs with anything less is just tempting fate.

Sorry about the trouble Butch, but also check your floor above the tires. It may have damaged that area. If it even broke the plastic or box, whichever one yours has, then the next time it rains and you tow it down the road, it will get the floor wet and will end up with bad wood. Hopefully this is not the case. Last August my partner at I at work(both campers) helped an elderly couple off of a local busy highway after a blowout on their Montana. I believe it was a '12 year model IIRC, but it did LOTS of damage to it. The floor was busted, the kitchen cabinets were busted as they were right above the axles and pulled out the propane lines and all the wiring for the tanks. The pic here didn't do it justice. We called a local roadside tire place for them and stayed with them until they were on. Good luck and hope you are back on the road very soon!

Thanks all. I checked the wheels and they are rated at 110 PSI. There was also damage to the floor covering and unfortunately I did not tape it up and the insulation got wet, I will repair that as well.

I have 3000 miles on my Trailer Kings also and your post has thoroughly convinced me to get Sailuns next week for my 2016 Montana. I was a bit hesitant to change because of the 110 PSI (Max Inflation ?). I'm still trying to understand if they are maintained at 110 or do you run them at; say 95 to 100 PSI?

We run our Goodyear G614 around 100-105 and that is based on the weight of each wheel.

After seeing the pic of the blow out and damage caused, my wife said get rid of the China bombs. We've had out 17' 3710FL for 10 months and only have about twoK mikes on them. We are heading to Fla in four weeks so Sailun tires here we come. Got a great price on simple tire (four for $590.00) plus shipping. Do not want to experience what you all have with the China bombs. Also thank goodness for this Forum.

Sheet metal can be ordered by a dealer from the manufacturer, shingles blew off the roof of my shop in a snow storm last winter and they landed against the side of the new 3790RD which caused lots of scrapes to the striping and bad scratches on the sheet metal. It was cheaper to order new sheet metal already painted with striping than it was to prep and paint it. For the parts and stripes for the side all in it was about $500 Canadian. Layzee Acres in Orillia Ontario who we bought the unit from installed the stripes and the new sheet metal at a very reasonable rate, we did not go through insurance as the repairs were under $1000

I would consider a 5th tire for the spare, due to the huge differences in tires. The Sailuns weigh 61 pounds compared to the Trailer Kings of about 30lbs. Look up Sailuns on youtube and this guy makes a visual comparison (Dec 2016 Junk these Tires, I believe) between the OEM tires and Sailuns.

We drove home today from our weekend trip on the 4 remaining Trailer Kings with no spare. Stayed at 55 mph. Next time the rig leaves the house it will be to replace all 5 tires. Justin does a good job with his videos. The difference between the bombs and these is remarkable. I carry two spares at all times with us when we travel more than an hour from home or on the interstate. Reason being, with the weight of these rigs, if you blow out a tire, before you can get the rig stopped you have already overloaded the tire that didn't blow out. I've seen numerous people blow one out, change to the spare and have the other on the same side blow out within a few miles. I bought a steel wheel from Tredit Tire that matched the spare and had a Sailun put on it as the other spare. The reason I did this was last year there was a shortage of GY614s for a while around here and I was in a hurry. My work partner put the Sailuns on her 3500RL Montana and love them. Much better tire. And for those that do not know, Goodyear introduced a new line of ST tires in load range D and E and a speed rating of "N" to meet highway speeds. This is an American made tire to combat the problem of the bombs.
