Check them tires

Had a close call today....well really not close cause I usually always check my tires. But this morning I came out to hook up to head back to Texas from Pa. and I usually at least eyeball my tires even though I just checked them and aired them up to the 80 lbs just a week ago. One tire didn't look kosher and sure nuff it was totally flat, Pulled it off and here is a nail in it. Not sure when it got the nail but musta leaked off after I parked last week, Oh well of to the tire joint where it got patched and back on and made it to Louisville Ky and looks good. I always do a walk around at every stop or before pulling out in the morning and really check the tires good. I am glad I got into that habit.

That's something that would have shown up earlier with a TPMS. Hopefully it was close to the upper psi setting prior to parking, so as to not cause damage to the tire.

I'm in the habit of doing like truckers do (most of them anyway) - before getting behind the wheel, turn your parking lights & flashers on and conduct a full walk around looking at everything. Carry a flashlight in the TV door pocket to use when it's dark. I've gotten in the habit of doing this not just before each trip, but after every stop too whenever I'm towing anything.

Glad you found it. I always take my tire monitor and plug it into the basement 12v outlet the day before we move and get an actual reading on the tires so if there is a problem I have a day to fix it. Then turn the monitor on while hooking up so I can double check before we move.

I do the same thing Walt.....They are LT tires so I don't worry as much on the stressing the tire thing. If they were ST tires I would probably have to change both of them out on that side. Just patched it and keep on truckin......believe me as hot as it has been and doing 65-70 mph and as rough as some of the road has been, if that tire was stressed it would have blown. Hit one stretch at 65 that had the truck and trailer dancing all over the interstate. More worried about the shackle attachment points....

Before I installed the TPMS I would kick every tire and look at them prior to pulling out. At each stop I would do the same plus reach down and feel each hub for high temps. I then continue around the trailer and check all slides and windows. If I am away from the rig, like inside paying for gas or something, when I return I inspect the hitch area just to make sure no one messed with anything. With the TPMS I plug it in prior to hooking everything up in the morning. By the time I am ready to do the final hook up to the truck I can look at the monitor and see all the cold pressure readings in all the tires.
