Mexico Border Towns - ID ??

What do we need to creoss the border on foot to the border towns - and MORE important to get back? We haven't received our passports (I know they are not required yet) yet and are thinking we won't have them in time. Is a U.S. driver's license enough? or an affidavit like we used to use to go to Cancun? Birth certificate?

We just went to Rocky Point. You don't need a passport until 1/1/08. Drivers License is all you need.

It would be wise to have two forms of ID. Picture ID's are best, but another usefull one is a Voter Reg. card.

We crossed about a Month ago and they asked for nothing coming back and didn't even stop us going in to MX.

Happy Trails,

We went over to Nogales,Sonora; Mexico in March. Just walkeed thru the turnstile n you are in Mexico. We had passports, after shopping, we headed back, waited in line to cross, hardly looked at the photo on my passport, we keep walking back to USA....cool
Don,t need passport untill 1-1-08....allowed $400 per person
We stopped at the Duty Shop first n bought a big bottle (liter) of Kualua. You pay, walk out gate to Mexico so guard sees you go, walk back in USA...wala....EXPORT.....$9.00...

They may not stop you and then again they might, just like the random RV searches when you're going into Canada. Some of the crossings now have scanners such as are used in airports. Coming back into the USA is where you'll be scrutinized. Definitely have a picture I.D., a passport is even better.
