New Champion portable inverter generator

We're headed cross country in a few days and recently purchased an inverter generator (3650 running watts) with an eye toward plugging in the rig (30A) for keeping the fridge cold and running a few things during occasional evenings at Harvest Hosts or other off-grid situations.

I'm having difficulty with the section on grounding in the owners manual. I know what grounding is in a general way, but the instructions leave me not knowing exactly what I'm supposed to DO. Have a grounding rod (copper, 3/8" x 4 ft) attached to the generator? I've never heard an RVer mention doing this, but the manual is placing great stress on the situation. It mentions this unit having an floating neutral ground. What am I missing here?

No ground rod needed for your generator, it is not being used for a commercial situation. If the generator has a floating neutral, all you need is a bonding plug, that you can purchase or just make by connecting a wire between the neutral and ground terminals in the three prong plug. Even the bonding plug isn't needed unless you have an EMS devise that looks for the neutral-ground connection.

You don’t need a neutral bonding plug or a ground rod when you are using your camper. When you buy a generator you get some lawyer speak. It’s put in to protect the generator manufacturer, can’t blame them for that. You have an inverter generator so you have nothing to worry about.
