Stone Mountain, Ga

We are in Stone Mt, Ga campground til Monday. Have seen several Montana's but no one around them. We are in Loop C, site 20 if anybody wants to stop by. Nice campground and it is filling up fast today. We got here Wednesday and it was pretty quiet until today. Going to see the attractions tomorrow. Our site has a beautiful lake view. I would recommend this park, especially if you haven't been here before.

Well Steve, you might have just hit on something that is on my bucket list!! That is to be on a mountain with a view of a lake or valley eating a delicious steak and drinking a nice cold beer. Going to have to investigate further!

We were there several years ago. The park is very nice as mentioned. This is probably the best time of year to be there due to the heat in the summer.

What I remember and stands out to me is that once it gets really hot in the summer the granite mountain absorbs a lot of heat and reflects it throughout the area. I remember the ambient temperature staying around 110° where the heat was coming from the granite rock.

Stone Mountain is not that far from my S&B home. My son wants to go there again, but last time we were there -- about 7 years ago -- the sites were uneven and the CG roads were tight. I guess it's better now?

I don't think so! These are some of the most unlevel (side to side) sites we have ever stayed in. And yet, this remains one of our favorite parks. We have stayed there many times, going all the way back to our tent camping days.

If you read another thread about leveling blocks . . . Well, let's just say it was more than two levels here one time.

And there was another time when I was struggling to level up the trailer and a fellow pulled up riding a 4-wheeler. He said, "I think we can find you a better place than that, why don't you go back up to the office and tell them I sent you." He gave me a small piece of paper with his name and some site numbers written on it.

When I presented them at the office they said, "Yes, sir, whatever the mananger suggested, we will take care of." And so they did.

We are staying in the newest loop "C" and the sites are all pretty nice and haven't noticed anyone having leveling problems. I can see it in some of the older loops, but this one is nice and where I would request next time that we come. Some even have decks and nice gas grills on the decks.

I'll have to check it out. I don't remember sites with decks or gas grills last time. Sounds nice!
