Love the campground at Philpott Lake! Awesome place!
We traveled 81 and went thru Bassett to get in. I do believe that 81 would be your best option (vs 58)
The road into Goose Point campgrounds (Across the water from the Salt house branch) is quite intimidating the first time. Twisty turny and very much Downhill!!
Great place tho!

Which route did you take from 81 to get to Bassett?

We took 81 to 220 south. We came in from the north. I have been across that 58 and I swear some of the turns I could see my rear end! I would think that 81 would be your best route from the north. From the south/west I would look at 52 in to Winston Salem then pick up 311 then 220 north. Just my opinion. If you are adventurous, the 58 route is definitely that! I wouldn't think you would lose any time by going the Winston Salem route vs the 58.

We are strongly thinking about taking 64-74 to interstate 40 then into Winston Salem and then North from there.
Thanks for the information

Safe travels

Lake Moomaw up in Bath Country Va is a place you should check out. It’s in the prettiest place in the state. Warm and Hot Springs are close by. Highland county is nest door. It’s called little Switzerland. It has the highest mean elevation of any county East of the Mississippi.

We live near Salt House. Take 81 to Roanoke exit 143. You will be on 581/220. Follow yo Rocky Mount VA (about 20 miles). 1st Rocky Mount exit. 220 South Business. Stay straight towards Ferrum. Take a right onto route 40 West. Your on 50 West for about 15 miles. After you go through Ferrum in about 2-3 miles you will take a left onto route 605 Henry Road. You will travel 6 miles and on the Right you will see Route 798 Knob Church Road and signs for Salt House. Salt House about 2 miles on that road. Just follow the signs. I think this is the best way with a camper. Roads are windy but we take our 3791 there all the time. Good luck. Enjoy.
