Legacy LED tail lights

Has anyone upgraded the tail/brake and backup lights on a legacy edition to LED's?

They are not the usual 4" grommet lights. I see two options:

1. Replace the entire light with the grommet style, but I have not removed one to measure the hole and see if that will work.

2. Replace the bulb. I'm looking for someone who has tried these bulbs and tell me if they are an improvement. On the tail/brake, is there a good difference between the brightness when the brakes come on?

I'll also replace the clearance lights with LED's. Hard to believe a unit in this price range does not have LED's.

I don't have the Legacy model but my tail-lights look the same as yours. I bought 4 led tail-lights that look the same as the factory lights but they are slightly larger. I used a dremmel tool to slightly make the circle larger to fit the led lights. I did away with the backup lights. I installed the led's where the backups were and just wired the backups to the regular tail-lights so they work together. I bought mine i believe at O'Reilley's or Napa autoparts. The standard 1156 or 1157 bulb is certainly antiquated . These new led's light up the rear and with 2 lights on each side if one goes out 'which is unlikely' i still have a tail-light and can deal with the problem when i get home. You are looking at less than a 100.00 for all four. I did this right after i bought my rv nearly 4 years ago.

Our 2018 3791RD is non-Legacy and has the rectangular surface mount lights as ALL 3790/3791RD models do. Last week I replaced the bulbs only with LEDs purchased from Amazon and they work great.

I did the same as "Texan" did. Not a hard upgrade to do. Next I want to put turn signal leds at mid point of the rig so people who are beside me know what I want to do. Very handy on multiple lane highways.

I replaced my tail lights several months ago, with these.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I replaced the backup lights with them also, so have two red LED signal lights on each side. I then installed LED strip lights on the back face of the bicycle hitch to replace the backup lights.

I replaced ALL of the outside clearance and tail/backup lights. Given a do-over I would likely eliminate the backup lights and go with 4 tail/brake lights.
It's a very easy project. However; one may be tepted to try some of the new thinner lamps, but Keystone uses the same 1-1/8" drill bit they use for EVERYTHING else and the fixture won't cover the hole. Also your lights require 2 wires, many replacements have only one.
here are the clearance lights I used

from this place local to me but they do online sales as well.

Thanks for the idea. I replaced the original lights with twin LED's on each side and added the backup strip lights. Before & after photos.

Thanks for those links. Where did you find these lights? I need the rectangle lights since my coach is not a legacy.

Got all mine off Amazon. I upgraded the lights on my last trailer with something like this (can't remember the exact brand). I was very happy with them.

Here are some others. Just search until you find something you like.

I haven't installed it yet on my brand new camper but I did see a guy who had installed one of the big LED bar lights as a backup light on the bumper of his unit. Now that thing would light up the world and made backing into a tight spot at night a breeze!!!!! In fact, now that I think of it installing those on the sides and front under the unit would make setup at night a lot safer too!!!

Wayne,
That would only be true if I was one of those kind of people that does not respect my fellow campers. That isn't me! Besides if the lights on the side are pointed toward the ground then they wouldn't shine very far past the camper itself eh? And there is also this little thing called a switch. Ok maybe that was not very respectful......where did my smart-alecky simile go...

Scott, sorry I didn't notice your pics that show the back up light strips. I was referring to someone else who did something similar. Great idea though!

Ops sorry didn't mean you or for that matter folks on this forum. Just that I have been in parks when the Friday night group arrives at midnight and fires up every light plus flash lights to set up. These people can't just setup the power and water and go to bed. No they have to set up the sewer, the BBQ, get the rugs out and drive the pins into the ground to hold them down. Once done sit outside and have a few beers and talk till whenever.
