Is this a good idea?
Hey all,
I saw what I think is neat but wondering if its worth the work to do this. I saw a 5er (Not a Montana) at the dealership today. Across the rear of his trailer above the clearance light he had mounted one of those 50 inch light bars that you see on the roof of trucks and jeeps. I guess he use's it for backing in place's or just to have light back there. So is this a good idea? I know I am a weird one but I think its kind of neat. But that is me. Let say you?
Thanks,
Charlie

Search for a thread from ~2017 called “Legacy LED tail lights”. I think there are some good ideas there.

If you just want better backing lights there are MUCH smaller models of those that would be better suited for the purpose.

Depending on what you want to light up, I think it would be OK. Definitely not in a campground, and I believe its overkill for backup purposes.
If you are hosting a gathering when you are among folks with the same intentions (Like a picnic, or party) then I think it would be OK
Corn hole after dark anyone??

To me it's not a bad idea but as others have stated you would want to be considerate of others around your campsite. Ranks right up there with outside speakers to me.

As mentioned ... to be used as a backup light ... way overkill. To be used as a yard light while entertaining friends and family, all I can visualize is a Giant Bug Magnet. Did you ever watch "Christmas Vacation" when the snooty neighbors were trying to sleep? What a hoot!

Ditto on your observation, and also happy that Charlie got the rig back. Been following the saga there.

I have a 24 inch one on the back of my MH. I mounted it on the trailer hitch with a plug for the 7 pin plug in. I can unplug it and take it off, works great.

light bar
I had a class C that I would use a lot on weekends. Come in Friday night, leave Sunday. Backing into a tree lined spot would get hard sometimes. I put some lights in the luggage rack and a switch on the dash. It worked out great

I mounted a curve one under the front of my camper between the front jacks. Works pretty good backing and setting up on your site without blinding and bothering any of your neighbors.

WOW!!!!
So your unit is pointed to the front of your truck and light's up underneath the trailer and the truck or am I mistaken?

Nope its between the 2 front jacks, the ones yiu use to lift your trailer off the TV. i have it pointed towards the rear of the trailer, its the curve model like off roaders put above their windshield of there vehicle. It lights up a wide area, i don't even need the TV hooked up to use it i have a switch for it in my front left compartment.

My 2019.5 Montana has a flood light on the street side. That would be more than enough to back with but not ridiculous to mount on the rear. The LED backup lights on this unit are bright! Enough light to the sides as well.
