Jekyll Island, Ga questions again?
We are again considering changing our Thanksgiving plans for the coming year to see some new areas and sights. I asked about Jekyll Island a couple of years ago when we were considering it but ended up going elsewhere. Family discussions and vacation planning brought up the subject again, so we are turning to the MOC for experiences, insights and general information regarding the campground there. As always the women have to have shopping nearby and I am sure Brunswick will afford them ample opportunities for their Black Friday fix. Enough rambling, time to get some worthy MOC responses and advice, anyone???

Hi Bingo,
We were in Brunswick in March of 2011 staying at Coastal Georgia RV Park. Drive to Jekyll Island to check out the place, the CG was nice, but it seemed a little cramped to us. All grass sites(I think, the live oak trees were dropping their leaves then). The place was almost full, and we had a little hard time maneuvering around, cause we couldn't tell where the road was cause of all the leaves, and it was crowded.
You have to pay the $5.00 charge to get onto the island, but do you have to pay it each time you go back to your camper? I don't know, hopefully, some one will answer.
The place is full of history, take the tram and cottage tour, very interesting.

Bingo,
the campground does appear to be pretty cramped for space...and seems it would be hard to get around in depending on where your site is...we stopped by there in Jan of last year to check it out...kind of a turn-off for us...most likely wont go there with the camper...

We stayed at Coastal Georgia RV Park last October and visited Jekyll Island for a day trip. Coastal Georgia is a fairly new park and really beautiful.

Lots to do in the area. Shopping outlet is close by on I-95 if I remember correctly. Savannah is an easy drive, as is St Marys, and Jacksonville. There is also and outlet area at the St Augustine exit from I-95. We like Ferdinia Beach for loafing around. Comberland Island is good and the ferry departs St Marys. State park nearby.
At any rate you can have fun in the area.

Bingo,
How about St. James Island State Park in South Carolina? George and Rosetta loves it and it will be one of our destinations this year.
