surge protection
Hi,I have a 3582 2014-2015 ? and I am thinking about putting in a hard wired surge protection device. Was wondering if any one with the model or similar have done this install, where did you put it? I am betting it is pretty strait forward and I have a good background in residential wiring. I would like to do this so I can take it out when traded and return wiring to factory if possible..thanks

If you have an on-board generator, or at least the gen prep it makes for an easy mod as everything is on the front side of the front basement bulkhead.
I've done it twice and found it easiest to buy a 3 or 4 foot length of cable from Home Depot or Lowes, generally that way you can avoid cutting any of the existing cabling, makeing it easier to remove the mod.

Yes, it IS pretty straight forward. The worst part is manipulating the large gauge wires within the surge suppressor enclosure. I have the Progressive Dynamics EMSHW50C unit.
I put mine behind the basement wall, near the steps and circuit breaker panel. Plenty of room there.
If you use the Progressive Dynamics unit, get the remote display so you'll have a bypass switch.... just in case.

I'm a little confused about who is making your surge unit. I don't believe Progressive Dynamics makes surge protection devices yet. I think the EMSHW50C is actually made by Progressive Industries, a completely different, unrelated company.

I have the Progressive Industries EMSHW50C and highly recommend it. They offer an excellent warranty and the unit is modular in the event a failed part needs to be replaced.

I think that if you check, the majority of forum members have chosen the Progressive Industries models. Customer support and warranty win hands down from what has been reported on the MOC. Do your homework and the choice is obvious.

just ordered a Progressive Industries EMS- PT50C on Saturday and received it today. We'll be going on vacation for two weeks in July. Based on input from the forum and some issues some folks have had on the forum, I decided it was best to purchase one.

Ooops... I had a brain fart. I meant Progressive Industries. Just didn't remember the name correctly.

We have the Progressive Industries hard wired unit and very happy with it it. Gives us good peace of mind. Just another great thing learned here at MOC.

I have installed two of these in two different trailers. In both cases, I mounted them behind the fuse and circuit breaker panel. Also in both cases, there was more than enough extra wire there to allow me to splice the unit in without having to add extra wire. As already mentioned, the wire is very heavy and a bit difficult to manipulate inside the Progressive box. And as with all things electrical, if you don't have experience or know your way around electricity, have a professional do it for you!

Just wondering when you changed trailers did you remove the surge device. If so, did you put in a junction box to join the wire together after removing the surge protector?

No, I left it in place. I don't mind splicing grounds but shy away from splicing hot wires.
