Heading South
Heading South on Sunday from Central New Jersey. Do not like that I-95 route. Anyone have a suggestion that doesn't add 100 miles to our trip???? Once we get past DC the ride is good.

Tom,
Well depending when you leave and how big of a hurry you are in. You might want to stop at James Island County Park in Charleston, SC (Jan 16-20). Currently there are eight Montana's signed up. You are welcome to joins us, it is always a good time.

Take a look at Route 301 in Delaware to Route 50 over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and back around to I-95.
Unfortunately, there is no other way around Baltimore/DC that will not add way more than 100 miles on you.
If you find a better route, please let me know too, I HATE GOING THRU/AROUND BALTIMORE!!!

I agree. Have often traveled that route and recommend it. In addition consider what John Walker said and join us at James Island for a nice visit.

I forgot to add, going over the Chesapeake Bay bridge will take you thru Annapolis MD. This route adds about an hour onto our ride home, but its a low to medium stress drive. Unlike the high stress drive going around Baltimore.

Take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to Hwy 17 South and stop in New Bern, NC. You can spent a night or two (or longer) in our driveway and we'll show you our historic city. Then you can join us at James Island in January.

If you choose the bay bridge (which we also choose that way south) the bay bridge toll is no charge going south but they get you coming back and it's pretty costly. I forgot how much. Maybe Tom remembers .....but it's over $30.00 that I do remember.

Looks like its $18.00 for 4 axles, at least for now.
Knowing Maryland though, it will go up Jan. 1st.

The safest thing to do would be, leave late at night when traffic is down. Those drivers in the Baltimore area are dangerous, really not a whole lot better coming out of Jersey. Once you are past that area, find a park to put rest up at,and the whole trip will seen better. Glad my brother moved from Maryland and went to North Carolina.

We made a mad dash Saturday morning and made it to South of the Border in 8.5 hours. Left home at 7AM, traffic was medium around Baltimore/DC, but in NC on I-95 traffic would just come to a stop for no reason. Thought we were in California for a while, run 65 MPH for 20 minutes, then 20 MPH for 20 minutes. Boy was I goal to see PEDRO!!!! LOL.
