I suggest you talk to a fiber glass repair shop. My first thought is one associated with boats.
Good luck.

Just my experience a few years back when I replaced the graphics on my 2980 .... I tried medium cut, fine cut, special show quaility cut, the newer plastic headlight compound, clear coat only compound, fiberglass only compound, followed up but just plain swirl remover. None of the above permanently got rid of the "ghost" decal images. The plastic headlight compound worked the best, but after a few months, the "ghosts" were back. The one thing I didn't try was wet sanding it with say 800 - 1000 grit/then polishing it.(Unless you have high gloss siding, I wouldn't recommed this) Local body man said something to the effect that the decal and the adhesive block some of the UV properties of the sunlight and that you'll not be successful in making it all look the same once etched by the UV. Perhaps some others have stumbled upon a solution that lasts.

Rich - I am in the same situation. I have removed all the bad graphics on my 2955RL and have the "Whtie Ghosts". I am taking it to the shop next Monday to have the new ones put on. I don't have any answers now but maybe then. At the very least, it should show my buddy Mike where the graphics need to go. He is very good and hopefully they will fit right over the ghosts!!

All the options I am aware of have been discussed, and agree, the ghost outlines will remain. Best thing to do, is repaint the front cap and spray with clear coat.

here's what happened to me on our 09. Last summer 2011 I washed the front cap. I got about 1/2 way done and the water in the bucket looked like milk. So i finished and when it dried it did have the nice shine anymore. So i thought i'll just wax it with the wax i use on my boat. So i waited for a cool morning with no sun and i did the waxing, got all done and it looked no better, maybe worse. Tried everything and the shine never came all the way back. So I would say area's under decals will look good and area's exposed the the element will never equal up.

Try PoliGlo. Had a boat I renamed and the old name left the same ghost image. PoliGlo covered the ghost.

X2 on the PoliGlo. The other option is do a little research on gel-coat and fiberglass oxidation. The dull appearance is the result of oxidation which can be removed and then buffed. The area beneath the decals is not oxidized. Here are a couple of good articles that explains what happens and how to remedy it:

hope this helps,
