Awesome!!! I don't need another hobby per se, but smoking meats has always intrigued me...

One of the things that I like about the GMG DC is the height of the grill box. While I do like the compact size of the ASMOKE and PitBoss, I don't like the fact the the actual cooking box is limited in size. The ASMOKE has a tall lid, but it's an additional $80...

I encourage you to look at Traeger’s recipes. They have some really good ones. Our favorites are the modified smoked pot roast, 3-2-1 Ribs, whole Turkey, and GMG Cornish game hens. Also, smoked trout is great.

Thanks for the tip!

Like I said, I really don't need another hobby, and I don't know that I'll get it into this one like I have with some of my other hobbies, but it's definitely going to be something that will be a learning curve, and I'm looking forward to the journey.

One thing I'm interested in trying is "cold" smoking cheese. I have had some of that, and it's GOOD!!

I have a digital food thermometer which has Bluetooth. I put the probe(s) into the food outside and can monitor the temperatures on my iPhone. I also use it when cooking inside. This means you don’t have to have this function on the barbecue.

We got a small Traeger when we bought the camper. It was a dealer promotion - they were giving away a Traeger with every sale. We have enjoyed using it.

This is an excellent point!, and something that I considered if I went with the PitBoss grill. Not a showstopper for sure.

While this is an appealing point of the DC, it's not the sole reason that I went that route.

I actually think that the the 4 main smoker/grills that we've been talking about in this thread: The PitBoss, AMOKE, Traeger, and GMG DC are all great smokers / grills. The other one that I considered, and we haven't really talked about in this thread is the CampChef Pursuit. That actually looks like a nice rig too, but my main issue with that was that it wasn't quite as small as the other, and I feared that I may have a hard time getting it in and out of the space I have to put a grill into.

It's great to have choices as a consumer!, and even better to have a community that provides feedback and support!!!

Hope it's OK to share this in this thread...I went with a Blackstone Griddle 22" which uses quick disconnects.

My 36" 4-burner Blackstone Griddle gets more use than any barbecue, smoker, etc. I've ever had. Being able to cook most everything on it (instead of inside) including breakfast, lunch, and dinner and cooking all the ingredients at one time - veggies, potatoes, etc. makes this Griddle indispensable in my 5th wheel.

Only $175.00 at your local Walmart

I love the idea, but just don't know if I can add any more weight, what would I have to give up to take it along? how much does it weigh?

The next door neighbor in the park we are in has a Blackstone. He is envious of my GMG Davy Crockett and I am envious of his Blackstone. There are things that the Blackstone is far better at than the GMG but then the Blackstone can not slow smoke a brisket, pork butt or ribs. The Blackstone can not cook a nice sirloin with a cook wood smoke taste.

The each have their strong points but I would never give up my GMG for a Blackstone if that was the only appliance I could have. Now if I could have both....

LOL!! We have a griddle already, but not a Blackstone, so we have that covered.

I don't own one of these (heck, don't even own the grill yet!!), but this might be an option for having both???

...and, made right up the road from where I live. WOW!

Ohhhh, decisions, decisions! That looks very interesting. You know you can get a pizza oven attachment for the GMG grills too, right?

we have the PB Tailgater and PB Sportsman. Love the sportsman for the 19 pound hopper but it has a smaller cooking area than the Tailgater. We have taken our to the campground with us for the last 3 years and love it. We eat better at the campground than we do at home. Can cook anything between the pitboss and blackstone.

We have a traeger pellet grill at home. We thought about that for camping but instead went with a Ninja Foodi Smart XL Grill with temperature probe, which does the same, is very compact and you can cook both inside and outside the trailer.

We bought a Green Mountain Davey crocket a few years ago and absolutely love it! We took it to Vegas (from Phoenix) in the bed last Thanksgiving and smoked a small turkey when we got there. Best turkey I've had besides deep fried!
Note on the DC though, it cooks fast! We've lowered our cooking Temps 30 to 40 degrees and book time says for example on tri tip 2 hours and is done in roughly an hour at 185 instead of 225!
We've done tri tip, brisket, corned beef and cabbage, turkey, and all of it has been excellent!
