Dead bolt malfunction

All of a sudden my key turns but the deadbolt does not extend. Is this something I can deal with on the road? I need to be able to lock the door to at least deter any 5 year old burglars....

Had the same problem. The lockset/handle is relatively easy to replace. Amazon sells replacement ones if you've a mailing address, otherwise any dealer should have them. IMHO, DON'T get one of those keyless ones - ours had a tumbler jam in less than six months, making one of the locks inoperative. Warranty is so short as to be non-existent.

Yes replace the whole lock, very easy to do. Same happened to me. Most RV stores have the replacements or as mentioned above you can get online at many stores.

If a Fastec, if you pull the lock out of the door, there should be a model number and telephone number for Fastec, they can overnight one to you or ship normal. Have had to do it twice. Black, white, chrome, all the same price and significantly cheaper than RV store.

You have an older unit like mine. Open the old lock and see if the screw fell out. That used to happen sometimes. Locktite is the answer.

I had a similar problem on my 2013. Only I was outside and couldn't unlock the deadbolt. Crawled in thru the emergency exit window (luckily unlocked) and remove lock. The little push rod had fallen off somehow. Reassembled and it works.
BUT I am now afraid to lock deadbolt from the outside, because if it happens again I would have to break in somehow. If I buy a new lock, it would just be the same potential to fail so I kept the old lock - only 2 years old and 1 year of use is all.
Anyone have any ideas and suggestions?

I also had the problem of it locked and would not unlock. We were inside and could not get out. Fortunately I had some basic tools inside. But all I needed was a screw driver. Took it apart. Don't remember exactly now, but I think it was just a screw loose or out inside the lock mechanism. Tightened everything up properly and never another problem in several years.

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago and I was able to fix it. If you take the inside portion of the door handle off (four Phillips head screws) there's a small metal plate with two Phillips screws. One of the screws had come out and the other was loose. Behind that small plate is a little metal bar. There's a hole in the part where the key fits and the same kind of hole in the deadbolt. I just put the bar back in place, put the small metal plate back, and screwed the back of the door handle back on. Simple fix and works like it should. I would try that before spending money on a new door handle that will probably do the same thing in the future.

Walt & Carol,
As DQDick stated, a screw has probably fallen out. This is a common occurrence with the FIC locksets. It is not a difficult mechanism to work on, but when you remove it from the door, just be careful not to loose the screw that has come loose. A drop or two of Loctite on the screw when you put it back in should solve the problem.

Our deadbolt fell out so we ordered a better lock from the same company .The part numbers and phone number are inside the lock.

To avoid the locked out situation I had, make sure when installing a new lock set that you use some caulk on the deadbolt to see if it is touching the wood material in the jam. Mine was and I had to drill out a little wood to make the deadbolt work easy enough so the key would not break when opening it from the outside.
