Battery

It's time to replace the battery/batteries in Monte. I would like to know what type battery others are using , AGM or lead acid and what brand.

I purchased lead acid battery from Walmart. I thought if it goes bad on the road I can always find a Walmart. It have been in use for three years now. I did purchase the largest one that would fit in my battery box.

I just took the old one to NAPA and told them to give me an equivalent. That was several years ago and still fine.

I use AGM now, but the converter that came with our rig wouldn't charge them correctly.

I use a battery from a Interstate it is 19 inches long and 9 inches wide and has as many amp hours as 2 deep cycle batteries for $160. At least that was the price 2 years ago. No matter who you buy a battery from there is only about 3 companies that make batteries. Interstate, Walmart, Sears, Advance Auto and almost everybody else private labels their batteries.

In our new 3160 we had four 6v Interstate batteries added to service a 2000 watt inverter. When we lived in town and just occasionally boo docked for a day or two, we used (2) 12v deep cycle batteries. If you are always in campgrounds and the battery only handles things while driving, (1) 12v would probably do okay. So, it depends on your usage - more boondocking, more power requirements, more batteries. Good luck.

I use AGM. If you get the correct charger, you can put the AGMs in and forget them.
