Battery Charging

Montana High Country 2014 305 RL. Unit came equipped with WFCO ULTRA III Deckmount Converter WF-9800 Series 75 amps. Reading the manual I see that it has a 3 mode/stage operation Absorption-Bulk-Float. While trailer is in storage I usually hook-up to a 20 Amp line every 2-3 weeks and leave it on for 2-3 days. Is this adequate and kind to the battery or should I use my Battery Tender Plus 1.25 amp which I think is also 3 stage?

Although some feel it is a real job to pop the battery out of their fiver ... if I knew I'd not be using the fiver for a month or so ... I'd just pop it out and take it home and put it on something like your battery tender. In actuality ... if you don't have a thing that needs power while in storage, just remove the ground cable off the battery and it will easily stay REASONABLY charged for a month at a time. Or .......... do what you're doing.

With a good charger like you have, why not just leave it plugged in all the time? Then all you need to do is to check the battery water once in a while.

One to two month's just disconnect a battery cable absolutely no need to leave the unit plugged in.important to disconnect battery terminal because their are few items that draw on the battery
for longer periods I would remove and put on a Battery Tender which does and excellant job of maintaing the battery so when you arrive back at the rig you know you have a fully charged battery no surprises!

Disconnecting the negative is an option for just a month or two. If you only have one battery taking it out is a good option if you're leaving the rig sit for a longer period of time, like all winter. If you have multiple batteries, leaving the rig plugged in is the easiest option and that charger should do just fine.

All of us including myself store our Golf Carts all winter 6 months just disconnect the negitive.I know of no one that has a problem.we make sure they have a full charge prior to storage.

Yesterday I helped my elderly naeighbor charge his 9 year old Trojan's that were stored all winter first charge since Oct.they tok a full charge and all cells tested good. The main concernd during winter storage is that the battery does notfreeze a charged battery will not freeze

I installed a switch that will connect 2 sets of batteries or completely disconnects everything. I live in Arizona, so it doesn't get too cold in the winter. I have disconnected batteries this way for at least 8 months straight and they are fine in the spring.
