Slideout toppers
I have a brand new Montana fifth wheel and this is the first one that has slideout toppers. I have 4 slideouts, 3 of them are shorter ones and 1 of them is a long one. I have noticed that during a rainstorm that the shorter slideouts do not pool water on them but the longer slideout pools water on itand I do not want to have the fabric stretching out. Is there a solution to this ? I have heard of people making various products to stick under them, like beach balls, pvc A-frames and others. I was just wondering what Montana recomends for this and is this a normal problem. Thank you for ant assistance.

Check any rig, MH, TT, or 5er after a rain. Just about all larger slide toppers will be holding water. I think you will find the fabric isn't stretching, it's just the spring tension on the roller. I'm thinking of doing something this fall when we spend 5 months here in FLA, but for just weekends I don't worry about it.

The only thing I do is to make sure DW is not standing near when I retract the slides. It only takes once!!! I will occassionally partially retract a slide to let the water roll off.

Like was stated above all of the long slides do that. Some have made a support out of PVC to support the center so that does not happen. But unless you are in a spot for awhile it is not worth the effort.

If you stand back and look really hard at the slide topper installations you will note that most of the short toppers are anchored to the rig wall a few inches above the line of the topper roller. When extended they have a definite down slope from rig wall to roller. Most of the large slide toppers are almost level with the roller because in trying to keep the wall attachment parallel with the roller there is not enough elevation room toward the rear of the rig. On my rig as on many other the rear of the large slide topper is almost touching the rain gutter. The only remedy I see is to make rig higher or slides lower. Neither of which I see happening....

I have seen a company out there that has what they call an air pillow in the shape of a wedge to fit in there for $39.99. That might be an option for me unless someone has a better option ....thanks everyone!

Some have used beachballs to lift up the fabric, of course, one must remember to remove them before putting the slide in, that would probably be my down fall.

Nothing we have tried in the last 5 year has worked long term. The toppers are designed to give slack with rain collection. Ours are still attached to the 3400 and are still looking good.

I will usually climb the ladder with a broom and clear them before closing them. Helps to keep them clean also, Only do this with rain or debri in them. Not when it is raining though.......I think they add a little layer of protection from the sun also. If Had to do it over again, I would stil get them installed.........

I made a pvc pipe that has a 5" rise in the center. It worked great during our extended stay this past rainy winter in Vancouver, WA
