whats that switch for
On my water tank monitor panel there are two rocker switches. One turns on the water pump. The other is labeled HTR. What is it for? Is there a heater in the fresh water tank?

It is the ignitor switch for the gas burner in your hot water heater. Turn it on when you don't have 110v power.

Per above, right on the $. The water heater uses a propane heater and/or an 110 V AC powered electrical heating element to make the hot water. The rocker switch you noticed is the control for the propane heater part. It requires 12 V Dc power and gets the propane from the tank(s). The equivalent switch for the AC electrical heater element is accessed from outside by removing the water heater access panel. The electrical switch in the lower left area of the heater is the AC heater ON/OFF switch.
We leave our AC electrical heater switch on all the time. We use the propane heating feature when we need lots of hot water all at once, for example, turn it on before taking showers. More heat gives a faster water heating time. We turn the propane part of the heater off when not using it, but leave the AC electrical part on all the time. You can use either or both systems if you are hooked up to AC power.
There is an AC CB for the AC electrical water heater element on the CB panel on the converter box. Lots of folks use that as an ON/OFF switch, we don't.

In our case propane gets the water much hotter than does the electric side. Yours may differ. I guess the thermostat for the electric side of ours must be set lower than we like. For quicker recovery, run both, as PJ said.

Thank you all very very much. I don't think the dealers tech showed us that and I vannot find an explanation in the manuals. This forum is great.

By the way,
From time to time we end up at locations where only 30A service is available. Several years ago, we were having all kinds of problems tripping the 30A main breaker. Turned out that every time the AC came on, while the water heater - using the AC mode - was on, it would trip the 30A breaker. It's not always good the use the AC feature for heating the water.
