The paperwork just said cj-4 for the oil used, so I am not sure if it was synthetic or not. I know the ford fuel filters are a little pricey, but based on everything being quoted here I think I paid about $200 more than I should/could have for this service. I always reset the message center notifications after getting the truck serviced because sometimes the techs forget to or don't know how to. I was going to have oil changed at 7,500 miles along with fuel filter when I got to the Seattle area (had another posting for suggestions on Ford dealers in that area). That is what kind of surprised me when both of the warnings came on the message center. It had been about 7,100 since last oil change and a little over 14,000 since last fuel filter change. So does the truck's computer "know" that the last 2,500 miles have been hard towing and therefore lessened the change interval?
Not a Ford guy, but if the fuel system is like GM's, it is totally independent of the oil warning system. Bad/dirty fuel can cause the filter to become prematurely plugged however triggering the warning. That's a good thing however considering the alternative! While you did pay too much, you have the peace of mind it's taken care of.

Some businesses take advantage of out of town folks, unfortunately. You should call the Ford dealership and let them know what you were charged. They may reconsider sending folks there, because it reflects poorly on them too. Who knows, maybe they'll ask the place to refund some of your money? Hey - it could happen!

You should have asked what the cost would be before you had the work done. I agree that the cost was excessive. I would ask to see a detail of the material costs and labor charges and voice my concern to the management. Parts usually get marked up 20% and labor in an independent shop should be cheaper than a dealer.

A Oil change at my local Ram Dealership is about $75.00. I had it changed at Walmart for $83.00.

12 qts of Rotella 15/40 and a Mopar oil filter.

A fuel filter is $43.95 from Geno's Garage on line.

Yea, we'll squeeze you in. I'd have taken it to Walmart and bought a fuel filter from NAPA. $495 is a crime.............

When I had my 2001 Ford F-250, bought my genuine Ford oil filters from Walmart for about $10. My 2007 Duramax was over $100 just for the fuel filter. I now buy FleetFilters for about $26 and change myself every 8,000 miles. The dealeership does the oil change, lube and other checks for around $70.Fuel filter replacement was a ripoff.
