Antenna Strength Test
So we spent the long July 4th weekend in Silver River State park in Silver Springs Florida. Returning from the festivities at the Silver Springs Attraction in late afternoon, I looked over toward the dump station and noticed a SOB 5er finishing up the fun tasks for the weekend. He was about done and started to pull out, and through the woods I noticed his TV Antenna fully extended. I jumped up and started toward him but he was already underway. He didn't see me waving at him from the woods.
The only thing I could conclude is that he was testing the antenna as a tree rake. Although I did not witness it, I am sure it is hanging off the side of his rig or dangling in a tree somewhere out there. Guess he didn't believe in check lists.

Bummer...
My first little 20' T.T. had it's antenna tested, well, steps also.. They passed, as my move was just across the road to another C.G. Been lucky ever since.

I know people who hang their truck keys on the antenna handle while they are set up. Then they remember to crank it down before they go.

But if he did clear the trees, then he has an airfoil to reduce the wind turbulence over the rig and increase his fuel mileage!! A picture of the old Plymouth Roadrunner Super Bees comes to mind??

Tested my antenna two years ago leaving Custer, SD headed to Deadwood, SD-got to Deadwood park the Outback trailer in search of breakfast, come back after breakfast to see that the antenna was up.  Luckily it wasn't damaged and I cranked it down and we headed to Medora for two days.

If you happen to find his antenna and the batwing part is ok, please send it my way. We either caught a tree limb somewhere or the wind caught ours and bent one half of the wing clear back on itself at the point of attachment. This is while it was laying on the roof, not extended. I bent it back out but it has a little tear on each side, so its days are probably numbered.

Twice I have run after RVs leaving with antenna up. When I caught up to them they guessed right, antenna up. Coming back from Texas this Spring caught up to one with antenna up on I-35. Thought he would lose it at an overpass, but no. Blew horn while DW pointed toward antenna as we passed. He got off at next exit.
We have a red tag that reads 'Remove before takeoff' that hangs from the crank. Got it at the Pema Air Museum. I also do a walk around before we pull out. So far so good.

When we had our Motorhome, I did that, drove 30 miles and the front of the batwing folded straight up. I thought it looked kind of cool, but the wife made me climb up there and straighten it out. 
Oh and Pat, I'm starting to worry about you just a little.

Oh, Alan, I'm just fine...
One trip through the toll booth with the antenna up was all I needed to start hanging my truck keys, a red streamer, jingle bells, AND a checklist on the antenna handle so I don't forget again.
Now I just have to remember to duck when I get in & out of bed so I don't hit my noggin with all those reminders!
