Who is towing with 2011 Dmax?

My reference for Dmax/Allison transmission was my 2004, which we traded of on a new 2011 Dmax. When I would be towing on substantial upgrades I could lock out the overdrive on the 2004.

Do we still need to do do this with the new 2011 set ups? According to the owners manual if you use the M (manual) shift many of the new features are disabled.

Are these new 2011's so smart that you don't need to do this anymore?

Thanks

My brother has an 06 Dmax Allison. It only has 360HP and 660TK not nearly the power you have. When we take his truck we put it in gear and just drive. We pulled my Monty to Wyoming 2 years ago, 5000 miles total at speeds of up to 80+. I have only drove 1 2011 Dmax but I would say let the truck do its thing. Sorry I cant be more help.

Put it in drive and Tow mode, and let her rip.
I do use the manual to anticipate the down hill rides but it is not necessary as long as you don't overload the total truck and trailer ratings of the rig.
Mine is a 2007 but to my understanding the tranny works the same. The 2011 has more power and an optional exhaust brake. Both nice.
Enjoy!

had a 2003 now have the 2011 drw.i use the tow haul mode on both of those units.these trucks you put them in tow haul mode and the truck will do the rest, also the 2011 has an exhaust brake that you can turn on for steep down hill runs.they work great.

I have a 2011 GMC 3500 diesel dually with the allison transmission and I just put 'er in D and tow-haul mode and let 'er rip. I sold a 2010 F-350 dually with the 6.4 diesel to buy this one and drove the Ford for 15,000 miles the same way. Both are excellent vehicles I had no problem with the Ford, just wanted a GMC. I test drove a 2011 King Ranch which had similiar trim and options as my GMC, but liked the GMC better. IMO it rides better, turns easier but that's just me, others may feel otherwise. Talk is just talk, and I don't find it necessary to run down some other truck to build up the one I prefer, still when you're putting out about sixty grand or so make sure you get what you like.
