I'm waiting for a response to this question, too. My '04 Ford Explorer passenger-side seatbelt doesn't retract easily, either. It will go up on its own, but it needs some pushing and nudging to get it there.

I had a 1992 Buick (second owner) and the seat belt did the same thing. When I had it in for service one time the GM dealer fixed in under warranty.Said it was a safety thing.

Try extending the belt as far as it will go, then clean the fabric before letting it go back in. Over the years, grime gets on the fabric and will stop or slow down the retraction. Also, try cleaning the mechanism. Just use some compressed air and blow out all the nooks and crannies.

Let me know how that works out if you try it.

Edited: p.s., don't use any lubricating spray. It will get on the cloth and the next time you drive when you stop and get out you will look like a school crossing guard with a black stripe across your shirt or blouse.
