front jack quick release pins
Has anyone had problems with the quick release pins on the front jacks?? On my previous SOB, all I had to do was pull the pin release to lower the jacks and when I activated the power to extend them the pins would automatically insert themselves into the next available hole.
With our new unit, we release the quick release and than manually raise them first until the pin inserts in the next hole before activating the power to extend the jacks. Also, the street side jack needs a little persuasion in order to get it through to the second hole.
We currently have it in for a number of fixes after our first shake down cruise and were just wondering if anyone else experienced this and what the fix was.

Dick -
We usually drop them and then raise to next hole. Usually they snap right in, but every once in a while they don't. I think if I let them go, they would snap in if they were heavier. The weight of the base would have to overcover the spring tension against the leg.

The quick release that came on the Monty do not seem to be as responsive as the original equipment on our previous SOB or the ones that we replaced them with. I can find what I originally had on my SOB but not the ones that I replaced them with. If I'm not happy when they're done with my unit than I'll replace them myself. It's not a big deal to do and will cost about $50-$60.

The pins on our 2006 would snap back in easily, but on our new camper they are quite stiff. Maybe a little lube will help.
After the pins snap in, I always check the clearance between the pad and ground and add appropriate thickness of wood to be sure both pads contact the ground at the same time. I think that if the pads don't contact the ground at the same time, there could be some frame flex.

Dick - I have the same problem with my unit -- I have to actually jiggle and turn the 'bolt' to get it to snap through the back hole. Forgot one time and actually bent the pin a bit -- that didn't /doesn't help matters much either -- however that pin assembly has since been replaced but the new one is still quirky.

Dick, I have to ask if the pins are completely into the back hole when you just let them snap in when lowering. When I pull the pin out and insert it in the next hole, I always feel the pin to see if it entered the back hole. If it is not entirely into the back hole it could bend the pin causing the pin to be tough to pull or go back into place.

No Problems with our pins.
You might try reaming the holes out a little with the next indexed bit size.....

I have exactly the same problem. While changing a tire mine broke because I did not check to see that the pin was properly seated. It is costing me a few hundred dollars. I should have reported the problem before but my fault for my problem as I knew the condition existed but did not do a proper check before jacking.

I have significant issues with the curb side pin. After reading all your posts, I have some new ideas about addressing the problem. Thank you all.
