Check behind the bed
My wife likes to listen to cassette music when she goes to bed. Unfortrunately she isn't too careful where she drops the cassette when she removes it. Yesterday we traveled from Casa Grande, AZ to Congress, AZ and when we put the slides out we heard a very annoying cracking sound. First thing I thought about was, "Oh no, there goes another broken slide. Thankfully all it was, was one of her cassettes that got dropped on the floor and she wasn't able to see it when she was checking before we ran the slides out. Result: unreparable cassette. I jumped up and down for joy--there was nothing wrong with the slideout.
From now on we use a flashlight to check around the bed before we run the slides out (or in, for that matter).

Bad for the cassette Orv, but at least it wasn't the slide. I look around before moving the slides, but it would be very easy for me to miss something as small as a cassette tape too. Good idea about checking with a flashlight, after all, there is one right handy built in.

Ya know, that flash light idea when searching those dark corners in the bedroom is a GOOD ONE! Thanks. Think I'll be using that one!

We had the same type of thing with the remote control for the direct TV. Fell down at the end of the couch and got caught under the carpet flap in the slide. It looked really mangled but with a little patience I finally got it back together. Works fine. But it was scary when I heard that crunch.
Happy trails......................

We always check the slide with the computer table...sometimes the doors on the kitchen cabinet perpendicular to the sink near that slide, come open during travel and catch on the slide.

Thats a happy ending.. sorta
At least nothing major broke.
I will be sliding my slides in, and back out again for my "Periodic Maintenance Slide" operation so I will be sure to check for any odds and ends that are lost in the dark.

Good reminder, Orv. There is nothing worse than that sickening crunching sound of something caught in a moving slide.

Orv, thank goodness for little cassettes! My dw left her sunglasses on the kitchen counter, they fell between counter and stove and when we put the slides out, they got crunched. That experience was a wakeup call to look around before moving slides in or out. After one of our friends had their fridge door open while traveling we are very concious of closing doors and checking for loose items. Experience, yours or others, is the best teacher!

On one of my previous post I showed pixs of my damaged slide and what I had to do to fix it.
Just make sure the bottom of the slide is sealed to keep moisture out.
I know what you mean about strange noises.

I am worried that some day one (or more) of our ferrets will get hidden somewhere and prevent us from using the slides till we find them. It is always an adventure when they decide to hide.

I have a couple of kitchen drawers on my "to do" list of repairs. The good thing is that most of the stuff in the way gets damaged rather than the slide itself.
