PROGRAMABLE THERMOSTAT
We have a 2004 305FKBS Moutaineer TT and I was wondering has anyone replaced their standard thermostat with a programmable one? I have one in my house and was wondering if I could use the same type or is there a special one for RVs? We currently have a Duo-Therm analog thermostat controlling a 15,000 BTU Duo-Therm Brisk Air model#59516 A/C unit and a Suburban Furnace. Any advice is appreciated.

A lot of us have replaced the analog thermostats with Hunter digital ones, myself, and most others don't have the need for "Setback" style thermostats in our RVs, but did want the + or - 1 degree temperature swing of the digital thermostat. For a good tutorial on installing a digital thermostat go to the info provided by "fulltimedreamer" on this procedure at: Thermostat Upgrade

I have put a programmable thermostat in our last three trailers, just follow the same instructions that Glen references above. The brand does not seem to matter, as long as it is a self-powered digital thermostat (usually powered by two AA batteries). Hunter is fine, I have also used White-Rodgers, and Home Depot's house brand. Actually Home Depot's is a little easier to work with because there is a bit more room inside the case. It is an interesting project and well worth the effort. Good luck!

I used the Hunter 44110 from Lowes. It is a 5-1-1. I also added the small switch to allow 2 fan speeds. It is a major improvement over the original.

Thank you all for your advice and links. I will be looking for a thermostat after the holidays and will keep you posted on how it all goes. Thanks again.

Okay, I couldn't wait. I went out and got the Hunter thermostat at WalMart last week and installed it on Saturday and now I am "digital". I also installed the SPST switch so that I have both speeds for the A/C fan. Everything went great and the install only took about an hour. Thank you all for your advice on the procedure. I also checked out the links that were provided and they simplified everything greatly. See you on the road.

After reading all the good reports on the Hunter, went to Wally World and picked one up today. Hope to put it in the end of this week, to have ready for trip next week.
