Propane detector problem
Used the Mountaineer 344RET for the first time this week and have a 15 item punch out list, but the most concerning one is the Propane Detector keeps going off...twice before we left, once while we out and once on the way home. I'm sure it's not an active propane leak because I turned off both tanks after it went off the first time. Has anyone else had this problem? Do the detectors fail often, or am I just lucky?

Craig, we are having the same problem with ours right now. Bob thinks it may be the cleaning agents we have under the sink near the detector. It only happens when the coach is all closed up with the A/C on. We have even removed our tanks and the detector still goes off. If we come up with anything, we'll post it.

Thanks Bob. I'm taking mine in tomorrow to get it checked out. I imagine they'll do a cursory check of the LP system and then replace the sensor. I'll let you know if that covers it.

Took it in today and they informed me they have another unit in with same problem. Apparently the Reset button sticks and cause they propane warning to go off all the time. I showed him it could be activated by closing the cabinet door next to the detector. The fix is to replace it with a new one.

We had this problem with ours last year and after a number of go rounds with MTI they replaced it with a new one.

It's been awhile since I read the manual on ours but I think it mentions what else will set off the detector. On our 3295rk the detector was right next to the water heater. Just above it was a lift up door for access to the water heater. When the WH was on propane and the wind was just right it would set off the detector even though supposedly the gas components are outside and sealed from the inside. This only happened a few times.
See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Steve, maybe this is what is happening sporadically with our 3650RK, same propane detector location in proximity to HW tank as in your unit. Our detector goes off sporadically with no apparent propane gas leak. Could also be the aerosol spray cans under the sink right next door to the detector. I normally have our HW Heater on propane, so could also be the source with wind from the right direction. Was your detector replaced or a fix implemented?

Also know that when your battery gets low, your LPG detector will start to "chirp" until you recharge the battery. Might be worth a minute to check the charge level on your battery.

Montana Sky, Good point on the station battery check. Battery was at full charge on station power and water levels were all full - same level. It is something that I check periodically, but need to be more consistent. Thanks for the reminder.
