This card is one of the best things I’ve gotten for traveling.

Savings with TSD card with recent price increases?

We're planning a several thousand mile trip with our Duramax pulling our 305RL this summer. Would like to know amounts of savings people are seeing with the TSD card after the recent ramp-up in fuel prices.

It varies wildlydepending on company and location. In early April I saved almost $1/gal (mostly because GA had suspended state tax) and recently saved only ten cents per gal. TA/Petro are usually among the better priced, but we also have had some luck with Casey's, Thornton's and Weigel's. Typical savings are between 25-50 cents off truck stop pricing so sometimes cheaper to buy from regular stations when not towing (we use GasBuddy app to compare to TSD/EFS).

We use the app to look ahead and pick my fuel stops. Prices have been changing daily (up and down) so we try to check the app in the morning before we travel.

Does it work at Pilot/Flying J? Article last year said no.

Tom,

I believe it will "work" but NO discount and EFS charges like $1 or $1.50 when you use at a non-discount location. I think this goes back to Good Sam supposedly suing Pilot under some exclusivity provision in their discount deal w/ Pilot? Lots of rumors out there so who knows...

That's still a NO! You can join the GS club and get a discount of 8 cents off the cash price at Pilot/Flying J. The TSD card is only acceptable at specific/listed fuel stations per their "on the road" app. Discounts vary with TSD from very little to upwards of .50/gal off...just finished a west coast to east coast and back trip...made the mistake of trying to use my TSD card a couple of times at Pilot/Flying J...was refused both times...FYI

Richard,

The policy went into effect on 11/1/21. On 11/24/21 I charged $169 at a Pilot (truck lanes) with no discount and the $1 charge. Not something you'd want to do but it does work. Line at TA was too long and went to Pilot next door (in a big hurry).

We use it a lot, for reasons probably already discussed. With the Ram 50 gallon tank, I can usually find a good discount along the road. The key is to search along your route, not your location. Just like stations around town, you may find $.30 to $.50 per gallon difference. We just paid $4.84 at Petrol in Laramie, Wy last week. Pilot was around $5.65. Not having to send the wife in with the credit card, DEF at the pump, no waiting for the final bill after you told them to authorize one amount and it was less and finding prices cheaper than Costco without having to run your card two times (or more) is priceless. We resisted because of giving our checking account, but it has been great for a year now.

Amen to DEF at the pump! Only had to do jugs once and 1 defective spout (vent leaked) convinced me I never want to do that again.

Guess not everyone got the message...if my card was refused then the answer remains "no"...with apparent exceptions to that "no"...

We just did our annual Jacksonville, FL. to Magalia, CA. We used the TSD card all the way across at TA/Perto stations with the exception of one night we found fuel after dinner out for $.30 gal. less than the local TA, not sure why.

With 86 gal. and only driving 5 to 6 hours a day I never get out of a fuel comfort zone. I like not having to go back and forth to the register, just have to make sure there is enough in the checking to cover the trip. This year I calculated it using $5.15 gal and 8 MPG, it was so close except for a full day of head wind.
