Doing warranty repairs

Hello all, first post so we will see how this works out. Bought a new 3121rl last August and have had no major issues, unit seems to be well built. All the little adjustments and repairs I have done myself. Less than I expected buying a new trailer. I do have a problem with ceiling fan and one pop up outlet. Does anyone have a persons name and number at keystone that might send me the parts under warranty and let me do the repairs instead of taking it back to the dealer. Also want to inquire if I can buy some cabinet parts that match so I can install a drawer in bathroom where it should have come from factory. Thanks and I appreciate all the help (past and future) from this forum.

Have you talked to your dealer? I've never known Keystone to deal directly with a customer sending parts. I have however had the dealer order parts for me for a warranty repair.

sourdough is correct. Keystone is going to send you directly to the dealer. I think most dealers will send parts to you unless it is something major that might create a liability.

We were told at the time of our walk thru that we are always to call the dealer first for any warranty work. They will also (our dealer) will get any parts that you might want or, in my case, when I wanted to change out the bathroom door I was given the number to a cabinet factory that work's I guess for Keystone and ordered what I needed thru them.

Welcome to the MOC.
Along the line of the dealer doing warranty work, is it customary for a dealer to get a $ deposit from the customer before ordering warranty parts? That is what ours does ,and the DW gets all p.o.ed about it.

It has been my past experience for anything related to warranty work, I had to go through my dealer's service shop. For items like cabinet doors and parts and such, it's always through the dealership. No doubt, you can always find items on Ebay or Amazon, but you may still end up with the wrong item. To be sure you get the correct item, I suggest going through a dealership service parts shop.

Modern Trailer in Anderson, Indiana has been absolutely phenomenal for me for the last 20 years, finding hard to find items, items no longer manufactured, items for my campers I did not purchase through them, and items from camper brands and models they don't even sell. For me, the time, effort, and frustration is worth the little extra expense to pay for convenience and peace of mind. And, if they can't find it, I've found out, it simply does not exist and no one can find it either. That's when they are really helpful in finding a substitute part.

My suggestion, go back to your dealership service department and let them do the work finding what you need.

I'd get po'd about it too. Do you get the deposit back?

In my experience, and I've had a lot of warranty work done thru the years, you take it in, they assess the issue then provide that information to Keystone along with proposed repairs. Keystone approves, doesn't approve, or approves a remedy other than requested by the you/the dealer. That approval is for abc to happen and the dealer knows how much they are going to get for labor and material - it may run over the original approved from Keystone and they have to get additional approved as has happened....so why do they need a deposit from you up front? That may be SOP somewhere but it's never happened to me and I would definitely question it. JMO

Welcome to the forum!

You might find it easier and less stressful to buy your needed parts from Trekwood and forget about your warranty.

Thanks for the reply’s and support, I’ll be calling my dealer, just don’t want to pull the trailer 100 miles to the dealer and leave it for a couple months and then make another trip to pick it up

In 15 years, I have never paid a deposit on Montana warranty or extended service warranty parts. If it is a warranty claim, Montana pays for the part.

my dealer does it as well. They started it when people did not return to have said warranty part installed and they had to eat the cost. they Charge $50 and return it when i pick the trailer up.

Purchased our 2020 3791 in April 2019. We are full time with work, Dealer came out due to issues (sent photo of problems). When they came out we made a list together, I told them when they get all the parts in I will call and they can come get the trailer (just purchased F350 still undecided on hitch). Due to covid we stayed in the trailer on their lot. I knew better then leave it with them as it could take weeks. It took a day longer than the one day planned. Would never agreed to pay deposit on warranty work. I will post later on hitch selection still undecided.

Dealer charging a deposit on warrentee parts is becoming quite normal. As in post number 14, it started by people not returning to have the parts installed. You get your deposite back when you have the parts instslled.

keystone DOES not sell directly to consumers. everything has to go through the retail center/service center.

As stated, your dealer is the best option for getting parts under warranty. That said, I contacted Keystone recently to replace a popup receptacle that was burnt in our new Monty. After photos and discussion, they did send it to me for me to replace. I'm sure that some of this was due to the Covid-19 problem as I'm a heart failure patient and at high risk. For parts not under warranty, I usually contact Trekwood (www.trekwood.com) or Bontrager's (www.bontragers.com). HTH.

We had our microwave die under warranty while we were south. Made arrangements to pick new one up while we were home for Christmas and install it myself. They wanted to charge me shipping that they said was not covered by warranty. I asked them if they would eat the cost of installation if I had brought the rig in and he said they bill it back to warranty insurance. I said so bill them back for my charge for installation which happens to be the same as shipping. He thought for a moment and then said done. I still use that dealer.
