Pop, Bang & Smack

I need help!!! Hooked up to my Montana and I had my windows open on my truck. I went to make a ture when I heard a big pop then a bang then something sounded like it hit the trailer. i see no damage to anything but want is making all that noise? And yes I did grease the hitch pin and saddle before hooking up

Was the hitch just put back in and could it be your hitch seating itself in it's mounts? Did you look at the rigs suspension like leaf springs, spring hangers, etc.?

The standard install on my Reese allowed it to rattle and kind of bang around due to the pins I guess. I used some plastic shims and tightened everything up. It is quiet as a mouse now.

I can't recall who posted pics, but someone showed how they used a blue electrical box cap and cut it out as an oversize washer to take out some of the movement. I copied that modification which also helped I am sure.

If you don't have a Reese, or similar, then you probably read all this for nothing and I am an idiot.

Agree, sounds like it could have been that the jaws were not seated and slammed shut. If so, that was good luck noise.

The noise came from the hitch area but I did check the axels wheels and springs and see nothing wrong. I tried it again today and there was no noise from anything so it might have been just the trailer seating itself in the hitch I hope. Scared me!!!

If that is what it was you got very lucky that the jaws closed and didn't drop your rig on your truck rails. I have a Butch's solution, but still check the jaws overtime before I move the truck.

We need more info. Hitch brand and model? How old? How mounted? Pictures? Sure it was the hitch?

The hitch is a reese 22k about 10 month old and well greased up. It is mounted to the frame rails underneath the bed of the truck so when I need the truck bed I have a flat floor to work on. The noise was coming from that area but no I am not sure that it was the hitch. Just guessing right now. Pic will come later.

Charlie, with the the trailer removed, I would double check every bolt in the pin attachment area and the Mor/Ryde. Next I would inspect the truck hitch mounting system. If you have the RAM puck system, with the frame the hitch mounts on, lots of places for movement. I'd just check everything is latched properly.

Or the truck was just telling you to get this big thing off me

Thank you for the info but I did do that and found nothing loose or broken, I guess it just complained about it for a second. There has been no noise since.
