Toyota pulling a new Montana!

These kinds of folk will increase the likelihood of weight police pulling us over at truck stops for spot checks. I have already experienced that in California.

I had a Tundra and they do have lots of power but they are a tinney truck, rather flimsey in my book. But even with all that power the thing shifted all the time. Any slight grade and it would shift and that motor would scream. Used to make me nervous towing our TT hearing that motor screaming and I live in Texas. Can't imagine putting a 5th wheel behind it.

Some larger Toyota trucks are not marketed in the USA. Like the one ton and duallys. I could be wrong.

AS far as towing with a 1500 truck.... can't fix stupid.

It's utterly amazing to me what we see on the road today. Dealers should be severely chastised for allowing rigs to go out on the road being towed by under-achieving trucks. Many dealers will tell you that you can pull any Montana with whatever truck you have but they never tell you that you can't stop! When you get a trailer moving, it will roll, however hills are something else. I would never ever try towing any Montana with anything less than a 3/4-ton diesel powered truck. Even then, we are taxing the vehicle. Those who hit the road with those smaller trucks put us all in danger.

I had a Tundra for about two years. I pulled a 28 foot travel trailer with it. In my opinion, the Tundra is over-sold by the dealers. Toyota has tried to enter the USA truck market and compete against the big three. In some respects it does a fine job but it has some design issues. When starting the engine, it always ran very high RPM's and the dealer told me this was typical. The tranmission seams to hunt for the correct gear when pulling the trailer. The tailgate is way under designed. After owning the truck for two years, I traded it for a Chevy 2500HD Duramax and have been very satisfied. I would never recommend the Tundra for pulling a fifth wheel. It just was not designed for that type of service.

It is believed that Toyota has no 1 ton nor a dually model anywhere. The 2007 SEMA show was where Toyota displayed a concept type but never put into production to date. That concept 1 ton dually was equipped with about 260 HP and 500+ torque. Not something I would rush out to purchase..how about you?

IMHO, the Tundra is marketed toward the country club pickup owners. They need a truck once in a while to haul a new TV or maybe a new appliance home. It is not made for serious heavy duty hauling. However, if they ever make a dually diesel, my money will be on it as a good, dependable heavy duty truck. All the Toyotas are good vehicles.
