Tropical Storm Erica

We are spending our first September in Florida. We have asked ourselves - "Do we stay or do we hook up and go?" If we were in a house, we wouldn't even be asking. We are, however, in the Big Sky. Well . . . It IS a tropical storm and not a hurricane. We ARE in the middle of the state and not on the coast. It COULD turn and go more up the east coast . . . We think we will just ride it out. Being from Arkansas, we are no strangers to tornados and severe thunderstorms. This might be interesting.

At this point they're just predicting a lot of rain, but that can change daily.

Hi

I am born and raised in South Florida.

Because I have had summer thunder storms move the Montana sideways several feet we hook up and watch the weather.

In the past when we had a much smaller travel trailer we would hook up and leave just hours before the storm reached us. We waited until Wilma was so close that we were only gone from midnight until about 7 pm. That was a fast moving storm.

One of the other storms we were gone for a couple of days.

Keep in mind the forecast track is approximant not exact. Wilma was over 60 miles west of the forecast track and 1 category stronger than forecast when it hit us dead center.

If you haven’t ever been thru one you can’t comprehend the power of the wind and rain.

I'll second those thoughts. It's better to move and not needed to than not to move and wished that you had.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ Use this as a guide.. check wind speed probability wind is your enemy in a RV a 50 Knot wind (about 55 miles. per hour) 55 mile a hour sustained wind will knock you over. The storm is diminishing now but it will get over open water and pick up again.

I mentioned this on another post also...Remember these Montana's don't float to good and there is no where to mount oars! Better to be safe than sorry!

The rain has begun! Not much wind, but the rain kicked in a couple of hours ago. Last we heard, Erica really fell apart, so we should be fine. If we start to float, it won't be too far. Houses on both sides and a port with a large storage building behind us. Big Sky would have to go uphill to float forward! LOL!!!

Seriously, we didn't see may RVs leaving today. Will see what tomorrow brings. I figure we can be hooked up and out of here in less than an hour.

You are looking good as the storm has weakened. I see lots of rain in your area but no wind issue...you are good.....Good time to check for leaks.

We have a lot of standing water here, so make sure wherever you go it is high and dry.

They're talking out us getting some wind overnight, but nothing dangerous.

Well, the storm really fizzled out. Didn't even get any rain last night. Just now had our first rain today. Really hard for about 5 minutes and over in 10. I even see a little blue sky.
