Roof Vents Weathering and Cracking
Has anyone had problems with the plastic roof vents weathering and cracking? Have you changed these out yourself or had them replaced in a shop? It seems like these should last more than a couple of years!!

Mine didn't weather and crack, they hit a low tree limb and cracked. Very easy to change out yourself. Jim

I have had to put new ones on my 04 when I did I bought the better lexsan one and then mounted Max air covers over them, I now can open the vents in any kind of weather and the should last longer because the sun is not hitting them anymore.

Dmax07,
Ours cracked. Must have been made out of the very thinnest material available. Got some new ones and replaced. It is or can be a DIY thing. But does require to get on top of the rig. At least the way we did mine.
Good luck.

Had to replace mine 2 years ago they fell apart even though they were covered with max air vent covers, Found new ones on e-bay at a good price can't remember the exact cost but they were cheaper than locol dealer, just another issue of aome of the cheap produce they are putting on these Montana's.

Looking right now to change out one $38 at Amazon. I'll buy one more for the possible tree limb. I use 303 Protectant on them don't know if this helps?

We had replaced because of weather "cracking" due to hail storm
in Rapid City, SD this August!
We were only a part of 50+ trailers in the park that had to replace covers due to hail! Those with Maxx Air seemed to weather storm ok!
We also did not have any problem with the shower skylight or the Fantastic air vent cover! A couple of SOB's did have with theirs.
BTW... Along the line of it could have been worse... 60+ vehicles had windshields and back windows broken out while on the road site- seeing in same area!
So, we are thankful!

I have had them crack, but they were OLD, on another unit I had. My Montana is a 2006, and I had one break after losing an argument with a tree limb, but other than that, no problems. They are simple to replace yourself, and they sell them at camping World and just about any RV supply place you can find.
The maxxAire covers are a good idea, as mentioned above, and they can be installed fairly easily, too.

Another thing to look at on the roof - the attic vent covers. These are round covers about 6-8 inches across. I have a 2006 Monty and while on the roof checking something I sort of bumped one of them. It crumbled to pieces! It was like a piece of chalk! I bought 2 and just replaced the covers. The dealer I bought at only had the whole thing which included the part underneath that is held on with screws (and must be sealed) along with the cover. The cover just screws directly in to the bottom half -easy job.
Of course we live in Arizona and the Monty sits out in the sun for 9 months a year!

Twindman,
Good idea to check the vent covers! Thanks for the reminder. Yep, we had that problem too. Very easy to replace. I hope the replacement stuff lasts longer than the OEM! But probably the exact same stuff.

After three years one just crumbled and a second was not much better. Bought replacement covers at CW and then covered those with Max Air vents. I also replaced attic vent covers as well. (dealer item)
They are easy to replace as long as you have the correct cover.

Apparently Montana uses several different size vent lids so we took off the old ones and took them with us when we went to the supply house. Counter guy said that was the way to do it to make sure you get the right replacement. Just a thought.
