hitches
My wife and I are planning on fultiming in about a year. We purchased a 3585SA in April and now just purchased a used 2006 Chevy 3500 dully duramax to pull it. Now I need to get a hitch. A "Vally" brand has come up for sale in our area for 250.00. Are these good hitches? Any recomendations on hitches? What features should I look for or avoid? I know there are the 2000.00 + mega everything hitches out there but I have a dwindling budget and just need something reliable. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Hope to see some of you on the road soon!

As you are not looking for a $2000. + mega everything hitch, I will not extoll the virtues of the Trailersaver hitch. I will say this: As a fulltimer wanting to keep my trailer for a very long time, I am glad I got the Trailersaver....Prior to the Trailersaver I had a Husky slider by Valley......

The Trailer Saver for the Air Ride hitch, if we ever return to full timing we will go back to the Trailer Saver. The hitch we are using now is the B&W turnover all with the Companion 5th wheel hitch. I have also used Reese, Huskey/Valley and the B&W win hands down as for a steel hitch. The B&W will leave the bed clean when removed in about 15 minutes, and you don't have to look or keep up with the 4 little pucks to cover their holes. Good Luck with your choice. GBY....

Everyone knows by now how highly regarded I feel about the TrailerSaver hitch.

Thanks for the advice,I'll look into the trailersaver as I too want to keep my rv for a long time. So far I've seen a price of 1035.00. Is this good or bad?

Wow! Are you certain the hitch is the TrailerSaver manufactured by Hensley Manufacturing? Reason I ask is because I paid $1700 in 2003 and I know they've gone up since then.
Is it possible it might be the Trailair hitch?

If you can get a new Trailer Saver for $1,035 you better go for it. I paid $1,800 in 2005. GBY.....

I paid considerably higher for mine plus the install. I do have the built in compressor with in cab control also, I also had the plug moved to the inside of the bed. Around $3500. total. Beaudry in Tucson did the install....Probably could have saved some money by getting it done elsewhere, but we were in Tucson for the '08 Spring Rally. I would be leery of that price unless it just included the hitch and not the bed rails, install and compressor. Good luck with your decision...

Sorry, I jumped the gun, I was unknowingly looking at a trailersaver that didn't have the air ride features. I saw a price of 2595.00 uninstalled on the air ride model. I don't think I can stretch that far but I won't need one till oct. so maybe I can save enough till then. Thanks so much for the responses and sharing your experience. Hope I get to meet some of you on the road. Happy Motoring! JPS.

jpsbanjo,
If you are even considering the Trailersaver airride hitch, now is the time to buy. I spoke with Arron (sales rep.), they are offering some discount pricing this time of year, and they also offer a time pay program that might work for you. Just an FYI.

Back to the original post, there is nothing wrong with a Valley Hitch. I am fulltime and use one with no problem for the past 2 1/2 years and 25000+ towing miles, did add a 5th airbourne pinbox however. We tow a 3400.

Gramps, there was one for sale here recently. Check it out, if I remember it was in Virginia area until Jan or Spring? The owner was Douglas Dye. He bought his just before I did and was happy with it. I think he sold his rig.
Hope this helps,
Chuck

I pulled my Montana 3670 RL for 4-1/2 years with a Valley hitch with Zero problems! Loaded for the road my trailer weighed almost 14,000 lbs. with no water in the tanks. I carry a lot of stuff and that was about the heaviest model Montana ever built.
