HOw many worried in SO Cal about freezing
I live in So Cal and it has gotten pretty cold here recently. I don't know if it has actually gotten to 32 or lower but I know when I go to work at 5am it is often 38. I do not winterize as I have never needed to. How long would it need to stay 32 or below before things would freeze up? I would think a full day or two of course that isn't going to happen. Further I never keep fluids in my tanks just a few gallons for moisture. Of course the water heater has a bubble at the top of the tank or should have and again it probably would need to remain at freezing a good 24 hours or so to freeze the lines up with them out of the actual weather and under the rig. Just wanted to ask other owners especially So Cal what they have done if anything. I checked the unit today. No water anywhere. It was 64 when I was there. Water flowed out of water heater valve fine.

Hey there!
I don't know where you are, but on Saturday AM, I woke to find no water when I turned on the faucet! It had frozen out in the line! We are in Colton/San Bernardino, up Reche Canyon. Day before, there was literally snow covering the ground when I left for work in the early AM.
Steve took care of that little problem. Again freezing temps on Sat night and Sunday, but no problems here.
Take care and keep warm!

Hey Bob, up here in the north were it really freezes we have always found that it takes several degrees of frost before you would have a problem inside your trailer. Certainly the hose outside feeding your trailer would freeze first but with your lines inside the construction of the trailer they are somewhat insulated from the direct cold. Again, I believe it would take many hours of 28 0r 30 degrees before you would actually have a problem. Perhaps you could put a thermometer inside your trailer and compare it to the current outside temp. as well.

Bob
We are in Hemet and it has been in the 20s for several nights now. However, that is between 2-3 and 5 in the morning. It warms up pretty fast. We have the heater set at 40 out in the Monty and have had no problems. You are right, in my opinion, to assume it would take a lot of hours at these temps to freeze the Monty. However, water in the street (gutter) was frozen the last two mornings.
Happy trails........................

Bob, why take the chance, go ahead and set the thermostat at 40deg and have the confidence nothing bad will happen. I'd much rather buy some propane that replace a water line!

I was told 28 degrees for a minimum of 4 hours before any problems would occur to the plastic waterlines. That's not necessarily the outside temp but instead the temp around the waterline.

The screwdrivers are okay as long as you wear gloves and don't touch your tongue to the blade !
