Getting Reay for the 4th of July

Just got home from work and I'm done till July 11, 2006! The Monty is shinning, the refrigeator is cooling and the water is fresh! Heading toward Ashland WI on Lake Superior for a couple days of Casino Camping then back down to our favorite CG in Danbury, WI for a GREAT 4th of July. My daughter and granddaughter's will join us for couple of days. Ya know this is what having a Monty is all about. Family and good friends and just relaxing. I just hope all my warranties will cover the effects of the two Granddaughters!!!! Yep, I just love it.

Happy 4th of July to all my forum friends!

Ah, but the 1st of July (Canada Day) is not just another day here in the Great White North ... and since the 1st falls on Saturday, Monday, July 3rd is the holiday ... so you get two holidays, two fireworks displays, and international traffic jams all at once! We are following Bob and Kathy's example ... only going about 45 minutes toward Niagara to the Fifty Point Conservation Area on the south shore of Lake Ontario. Looks like a great weekend weatherwise. So "Happy Canada Day" to all our Canadian friends and "Happy Independence Day" to all our fellow Americans (wherever you may be spending the day). Next year, we are already booked for 2 weeks (including the 4th of July) with our kids and grandkids at the beautiful Shadow Brook Campgrounds in Cooperstown, NY ... where they always have a magnificent fireworks display over the water at the Cooperstown Marina. One of the fondest memories of my childhood and one we cannot wait to share with the next generation.

Safe travels to all and we hope the sun shines everywhere ... but especially on the good folks in the Mohawk, Susquehanna, and Delaware Valleys of New York, Pennsylvania, and points south.

We figured crossing the Border on the third (Sarnia) would be a good thing since it was not a holiday in Canada..Foiled again. But we will get to be involved in Canada day.We love fireworks displays..

Happy July 4th to all the American MOCers. We used to spend this terrific holiday in Newport Oregon and we always had a ball. Watermelons and Fireworks and lots of fun. Canada Day is nice but out west we don't go all out as much as you guys do but it is a great day as well.
I think we have two great Countries and I am happy to have the good old USA as a neighbor.

Rich ...

Crossing on the 3rd might work out ok. We crossed at Sarnia/Port Huron for several years when visiting our son in Milwaukee and learned to hate it. We often found traffic backed up all the way to the I-94/I-69 junction and the delay an hour (sometime two hours)... or more. My guess (and it is purely a guess) is that the earlier you can get there on the 3rd, the better. By mid to late afternoon, the stream of Canucks returning home from Frankenmuth, Mackinaw City, etc. could get heavy.

The alternative (Detroit/Windsor) might be worth checking out with a few truckers on the CB as you approach the area. I have not crossed there in years (never with the Monty in tow) so do not know how desirable it is from that perspective. Getting to Forest from Windsor (and the 401) is not a big deal.

Have a safe trip and a great weekend.

Bill

Happy 4th of July to each one of you, travel safe. we will be spending the 4th here by ourselves, this time of year there is not many that stop here in the desert it is now 105 the weather man says. The cafe here at the park will be having a BBQ and we will go and chow down on Ribs and Chicken. Won't be any fire works unless we do it and I am not into doing that.LOL

Here's wishing all of our friends on the MOC a festive, patriotic fourth of July! We are going to be at home awaiting about 24 friends to come eat BBQ with us. David will fire up the BBQ pits and we will start our cooking on Monday all day and then finish up on Tuesday morning. It is a grand event with everyone ready to savor those Baby Back ribs, brisket, chicken, sausage, hot links...,Everyone brings food to accompany the meal...So, we are looking forward to our BIG day...

Detroit/Windsor is our usual crossing point and it is also usually a Chinese fire drill. We figure we will get to Sarnia before noon.It is not all that far from here. We will end up in Blyth, Ont which is less than 200 miles due North of us but we will travel over 300 miles to get there.Lake Erie is in the way???

We are in Colorado Springs all weekend until Tuesday. That is a 60 mile drive for us. Got here this evening, Friday. Campground is full too. We go here every July 4th. Meet friends here.

We will be at home pulling weeds after being away for 6 weeks. The 4th has always been a big deal with our family, one daughter's birthday is on the 4th and one on the 9th plus a couple of grandchildren later in July. But now both of the daughters have moved away so it will be a quite 4th for us. Happy Independence Day to everyone.
Happy trails..................................

I agree but we want to go again to find someplace cooler and we have to get the weeds pulled before we can leave. We do it early in the morning and in the evening. One nice thing about Hemet is even when hot in the day time, it cools down at night. While you are all out having fun, think of us pulling weeds. But in a couple of weeks we will be out having fun too.
Happy trails..........................

We will be having fun with friends on Samish Island, barbecue and such. Also being part of a 4th of July parade here on the island with the 28 10 & 11 yr old kids here at camp. The Samish Island parade is all of 1/2 mile long and everyone has fun!!Huge community turn out. The fireworks is already starting...it doesn't seem to be bothering Graeme.

Happy 4th to everyone and our prayers go to those fighting for the freedom we enjoy...
