Fresh Water tank and City Water

Good day, I need advice about how to use my fresh water tank. We have been in our 3791RD for almost 3 years and never used the fresh water tank as we always stay in RV parks. The RV park we are in now said that due to the city replacing water pipes outside their wall that our water might be intermittent and that we should insure our fresh water tank was filled for those times. This brings up several issues: Can I just fill the tank and then turn back to city water? If we lose water, do I just turn on the water pump switch? What happens if I have the pump on and the city water resumes? Since I have never had water in the tank before, what additional things do I need to do? Thanks for any information and advice.

Yes to all your questions. If you have the pump on and the city water comes on it won't hurt a thing. The one thing you need to do ASAP is sanitize your holding tank as it has sat empty and stagnant for so long. You tube has some great videos on how to accomplish this.
