slide staining carpet
This is our third season with our Montana and we just had a new problem develop. When we opened the slides we noticed that the carpet was stained along the edge of the couch slide (edge nearest the back of the camper). The stain was about 12" long. It cleaned up fine but the problem persisted so we stuck a piece of cardboard under that area when we closed the slides to keep the carpet clean. It seemed like the stain was of an oily nature and reddish brown. Has anyone else had this problem?
By the way, we had just had the wheel bearings repacked by a RV dealer; don't know if it was related in any way to that but the problem came immediately after we got it home from that service.
Any clues you could give would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am no help to you for your problem, but would like to thank you for sharing it with us. I will keep an eye on ours to see if we ever have that problem.

Try cleaning the underside of the slide while extended. There might be some grease or dirt there that's causing the problem.

I have a black line where the slide closes. I hope to resolve this issue by cleaning the under side.

If you do get stains on your carpet, Woolite sells a carpet cleaner that works wonderful! It's called Woolite Oxy Deep Spot & Stain Carpet Cleaner. All you do is spray the carpet with it and most of the time you don't have to wipe it or scrub it. We use it at home and in the 5er, hasn't bleached the carpet either and it's blue in teh 5er.

The color and consistancy of the stain you described sure sounds like hydraulic fluid. You may have a leak coming from the slide pistons.

We have a stain there also. Reading some of the Forum remarks is sure helpful. We will clean under the slide and also use some of the Woolite Oxy Deep Spot cleaner. Hope it works as good as it says.

it sounds like it's related to the service you received. we haven't had that problem, but the carpet is wearing where the rollers are already!

Our 3280 stains the carpet black from the kitchen slide, it also leaves a coating of black on the wood plank kitchen floor, I have cleaned the under side of the slide but that doesn't help, I think it comes from the seal.

This is also happening in our 305FKS--one spot in front of the Hide-A-Bed area and one spot midway the dinette. Cannot see anything that would be causing it, but our slides are electric so it cannot be hydralic fluid. Will use the carpet cleaner to see if it works--hope it does--thanks for the suggestion.
