Leveling Question

Hello,

So we are about 2 weeks into this full-time living in our rv and we love it so far. Several challenges but getting through. I had a question however in regards to leveling. When someone walks around you can feel a definite wiggle. My question is, is that normal? Can I re-level the camper with all this stuff we have inside? Want to make sure I am doing the right thing.

Thank you!

Your going to feel a little wiggle. Personally I use the X chocks between the tires and it seemed to take a lot of that out.
It’s ok to re level if needed. I’ve only had to do it when sitting for a month or so. Left slides out and everything was fine.

You can relevel anytime. May be a minor adjustment you can do in manual mode. One thing I do for stability is to minimize leg extension by carrying blocks I place under the legs.

Blocks will help. The longer your jacks are extended, the more wiggle you will have in the camper.

Excellent recommendations above. Also consider installing a stabilizer tripod under the fifth wheel trailer king pin.

Most of the wiggle should be in the rear of the RV since most rear jacks are close to the axles leaving quite a distance of overhand without support can can also by freestanding jacks that will stabalize the rear of the RV. On our 3791RD it does not matter how high of jack blocks I use the living room area has a lot of movement since that is the overhang behind the rear set of jacks.

Here is another good option

I haven't noticed that we have as much wiggle with the hydraulic jacks on our new 5er. Maybe that's because there is 6 of them???

We also have the 6 point leveling system on our 3791RD. No wiggle when leveled on solid ground. I have seen some sinking causing trailer to not be level after sitting a while on dirt/ground. I gave away my XChocks that I used on our TT before we got the Monte. Didn't need them.
Apparently, the 6 point hydraulic system is really the way to go. At least our salesman was right about something.

I am not a salesman or anything like that, but the product "JT Strongarms" work. It has been my experience that they remove about 90-95% of the "wiggle". I have used them one the last couple of 5'ers I have owned, and I will continue to use them.

My brother had a homemade variant on his 5er, and they did work very well, or should say, the concept works very well...

I actually just got a set of XChocks for our Monty. We didn't use anything with our old 5er, and I thought that we should use something to keep us from rolling.

The one thing that I do like about them is that they hold your 5er in place while you're hooking up, if nothing else. I suppose that you could do that with just chock blocks, but the XChocks work very well...

The kingpin stabilizer tripod is not effective with the rubber isolated Moryde hitch. Best advise is the keep the jacks as short as possible by using jack pads. I have 2x12's and stack them to minimize jack extension, works great.

X chocks between the wheels helped us quite a bit. But if you're set up for a considerable length of time, consider putting a couple of hydraulic jacks under the middle. But jack them against the frame, not the axle.

I added Snap Pads and help. Even better on soft ground or hot asphalt.

The JT’s Strongarms are the way to go. Since I added them to our 5er, we leave the X-chocks & the king pin tripod at home. They’ll be going in the garage sale this summer. Frees up a lot of storage space in the basement when traveling & is way more stable.

A lot of good ideas here. But remember your primary support is pneumatic tires and springs. You can get screw jacks (4) and place under the frame before and after the tires but you won't get all the wiggle out. I have come to embrace my wiggle.

The JT’s triangulate everything. A triangle is the strongest shape. Highway & railroad bridges are triangulated. They’re easy to install for anyone with any mechanical ability at all. The video above is a great tutorial on installing them. They are well worth the cost, especially if you have kids or a washing machine.

Our situation is unique in that we live in our unit and had someone bring our campers out to the campground from the dealer. We don't have a truck as of yet. So can I still relevel with out connecting to a vehicle?

Your rig should not be hooked to a truck to level/relevel.
