Wally World while traveling

Many of you already know this, but for others ... Walmart opens their doors from 6AM - 7AM for people over 60 to get in and get the stuff they need. Here in Deming, they are sorta looking you over for age and if you show up at the checkout with a load of certain items ... you will be asked to return all but one or 2 packages for yourself before being checked out. If you want TP or paper towels, you have to stand in line which winds clear back to that location and it will be distributed by an employee. Most people were seemingly OK with this procedure. Lotsa law enforcement in the parking lots.

Yesterday, Westplains Mo. Walmart, TP isle.
Paper towel isle had a few rolls. If people are using paper towels instead, they will have a very expensive plumber's bill soon.

Our local store (not Walmart) at 0600 today had no TP but did have napkins, tissues and paper towels. They were pretty well stocked with almost everything else except butter and some cuts of chicken on our shopping list. We are set for another 10-14 days.

I haven't been off our property but once in two weeks and that was a trip to the transfer station where I never got close to anyone - even the guy checking us in only waved us through as long as we had the sticker.

The most 'fun' was that 6" snow storm yesterday and the town plow made a single pass and of course leaving a 3 foot high lump in my driveway. Thanks to both vehicles being 4x4s, no problem gor my wife to get out at 0530 for her 0600 store opening.

Same for facial tissue (i.e. Kleenex). Not good for plumbing to flush those either.

Haven’t seen any toilet paper at 3 different Walmarts and a couple other grocery stores in 2 weeks. Fortunately I had bought a 24 roll pack just before rush started and still have a number of rolls left.

Very few canned veggies, cereals, meats, among others.

Just went to our local grocery store, only paper products were in short supply. They also had a sign, one per customer.

Walmart

We just happened to be in a nearby Walmart in Taylor, TX (Sunday ~3:00) and they had just received a paper goods delivery. Folks lined up and there were two employees at the front of the aisle letting us go one shopper at a time and they explicitly stated "One pack of toilet paper and one pack of paper towels", and there were two Walmart employees at the exit end of the aisle watching the carts. The line moved along pretty fast. At checkout, the guy behind me had two packs of bottled water and the checker said "Sir you are only allowed one pack of bottled water".

I appreciate Walmart in Taylor doing it that way! Good job!

DW went to Sams in Round Rock TX this morning to stand in line and see what she can get. She got there at 8:00 and there was already a line of about 50 people. She is not home yet (10:22 am). Central Texas counties are supposed to go into a "shelter in place" order at noon today - but when I read what other counties in TX have done - we are already doing all of that anyway.

You can use paper towels or napkins as TP as long as you don’t flush it. We use a step can with a kitchen size garbage bag in it in the trailer. This means no plugs in the black tank, ever. If you did that at home, you could use alternative papers.

No smell, since the step can had a lid. Go ahead, say eeeew if you want, but trust me, it is sanitary and does not stink. And I know we are not the only ones doing it.

I'd tell you which product to get instead of paper towel, but there there'd probably be a mad rush to snatch them all up too, then my supply would run out almost immediately.

Oh, why not!

If you go to the automotive section of Wall Mart, you'll find blue paper shop towels. We've been using these for years and years now instead of white kitchen paper towels. They are 1) cheaper 2) each roll contains more 3) stronger 4) more absorbant 5) can be rinsed out and used again, unless you shred them up.

If you goes to Lowe's or Home Depot, you can get a box of shop towels in a gigantic roll. I do a lot of hobby carpentry and wood crafting, and I've been using the blue and white paper shop towels for years and years. They are great. As far as being "sterile", they are just as sterile as any Bounty or anything else. They are just colored blue. We use them for everything from cooking to cleaning the wheels on the vehicles. They are great for wood staining and wood varnishing.

So, now you know my secret. And I suppose when I go back to Lowe's or Home Depot because I need new paper towels for wiping down my wood craft items, there probably won't be any.

Lowe's and Home Depot also sell cloth shop towels. You can get, like, a package of 12 for $2.00. They can be used over and over again. We use them in the house for deep cleaning. They are cheap, and if washed out, last for a long, long time!

Well, now you know my secret.... oh, one more I shared over and over again ... we installed 2 Bidets in the house and 1 in the camper. No need for toilet paper! And wipe the bottom with the cloth shop towel! Toss in the washing machine for another day. Works great!

Now, if only I could get Little Debbies for my 6 year old grandson!!!!

That 6 - 7AM for seniors is only on Tuesdays at our WM, and it's almost like Black Friday in how crowded it is. I gave that a pass and just go on their slack times - 9AM or 3PM, but even those aren't that less crowded like they used to be. We've resorted to their grocery and the general merch. pickup things to avoid the crowds.

Step can used for our composting toilet. Easy. No smell.

Well, here in FL, when they let all the old folks in early, the 10 remaining people in the state enjoy empty stores later in the day.

So what's with this T/P thing

I'm just not getting this run (pun intended) on t/p. I could see the initial surge when disaster mode first kicked in, but why is it still continuing? Where are people putting all this stuff? Do they think the price is going to skyrocket and they can make a market killing?
We just happened to buy our normal restocking package just before the world went berserk and with just the two of us we should likely make it to May. So now I have to wonder just how much people use at each sitting?
Never really gave this much thought to this subject before. That's what sheltering in place does to a person.

Sears catalogs, corn cobs, leaves - which reminds me of a Boy Scout trip when a kid used poison ivy leaves since he forgot TP. It became a short campout andn ER trip for him

My mathematical mind kicks in....... Lets do the math!
Costco Toilet Paper
30 Rolls
425 sheets per roll equals
12,750 sheets per case.
Using 20 sheets per **** equals
637.5 shits per case witch equals
45.5 shits per day!
So a person grabs 4 cases of toilet paper and has a family of 4 quarantined for the required 14 days. They would need to **** 182 times a day to use the purchased amount, at 20 sheets per ****.
Just thought the numbers would tell the story! Sorry if I offended anyone! LOL
