A/C Problems?

I think I'm having problems with my A/C. It's getting hot here along the Columbia River. This Monty is out of warranty 2 mod ago. Ran a couple of days ago just fine. Yesterday, much of the time and then it shut off. Ok.. it reached the temp and stopped. But then it started up about 4-5 seconds later.. ran for about 5 seconds shut off.. repeat. So, I shut it down.

Voltage seems to be about 122 VAC on both legs. Suggestions ??? Thoughts ???

That could also be the thermostat. Try jumping across it and see if the AC runs all the time.

Thanks.. not sure I'm smart enough to do that. The thermostat does heating and cooling.. not sure what wires may go to what. It's not only warm here.. but humid.. so, I don't know if it may have iced up or not.

Bill,

Try turning on your unit, fan only with the vents open on the unit itself.

If it is iced up, you will have very little air flow but as the fan runs, the ice will melt. Cool air will become warm and volume of air will increase.

If you're getting good air flow, the unit is not iced up.

Try running your unit with fan set to high (not auto). That seems to prevent some units from icing.

BTW, if icing is your problem (I had that with my last rig), there is a sensor that snaps on to the fins. I removed the white cover inside the rig and found the sensor had fallen off the fins. I snapped it back on....problem solved.

Hope that helps.

What Ken says is probably your problem. With your humidity there fan on high and it will keep from freezing.

Ditto on the sensor. Encountered this twice in the past (on my old SOB and my friends SOB). Fixed it both times. Good luck.

Monty may be out of warranty, but check the warranty on the AC. Appliances have different warranties.

Good advice. Normally the individual warranties are longer than the RV's.

Found out last year, when the rig was still under warranty, that the Dometic A/C has a two year warranty. The CW west of Boise, ID thought the front A/C was added after delivery, so contacted Dometic instead of Keystone for approval to replace. That's when they told me about the two year warranty. Once the first year is up, the repair shop or you, have to chase down warranties through the manufacturers of the failed components.
